Argentina court ruling may legalize personal use of marijuana {Gadling}
Aug 26th 2009 5:39PM Given your comments, what is your medical expertise? The web contains a great deal of information on the subjects of medical and recreational use of marijuana. The opinions and "statements of fact" vary widely from the DEA to NORML. Since marijuana is a class 1 drug, research into it's effects are limited to those who receive the drug from the government, and therefore those who's research is sanctioned by the government. There is an obvious potential conflict of interest here given that the government sponsors the "war on drugs", and includes marijuana in the "war". I fail to understand how you can authoritatively speak on the issues you have elucidated upon without the benefit of extensive research, beginning with the universities and private organizations which have conducted pertenant studies.
Additionally, since your argument hinges on the idea that marijuana should not be self prescribed due to possible side effects, how do you explain direct marketing of prescription drugs to the populace via television and other media, and further, why those commercials usually end with a long list of possible side effects?
Argentina court ruling may legalize personal use of marijuana {Gadling}
Aug 26th 2009 3:14PM What has been detrimental to the moral fabric of this country is the counter productive "war on drugs". Any drug, alcohol, caffiene, LSD, aspirin... in and of itself can not harm society. The use of drugs as a political and economic tool to secure power has had the effect of splitting the country, and creating gulfs between generations, social strata, races, and other divergent aspects of our society. People think "drugs" are bad because the government has outlawed them, and few are willing to accept the responsibility that goes with self governance (of the poeple, by the people, for the people) and actually study the issues involved. To make a blanket statement that "Smoking dope is bad." shows a lack of depth in considering this issue.
