Mar 29th 2010 9:16PM Hitchhiking is a common thing to do in Europe. Lots of students and young people who try to go on adventure/explore trips through Europe figure it is a cheap way to travel. It was very popular during the 70's and 80's. I have never seen anyone hitchhiking in America, only in movies. You just can't compare America to Europe. It is a difference like day and night. People are just different!
By the way, in Germany you call hitchhiking "tramping".
