Dutch may force bad mothers to use contraception {ParentDish}
Nov 6th 2008 8:53PM There was a time when sounded too drastic to me until I met a family that took in foster children. In my opinion, one strike, one more chance--if it isn't TOO bad and they're willing to get help. Two strikes--no more kids. Ever. Even one little child ruined by abuse is one too many. And if the abuse is so vile the first time--no second chance. Ever.
Sorry, somebody has to put the children FIRST.
Help Gadling buy this woman a cow {Gadling}

The 20 worst foods in America {Slashfood}
Nov 22nd 2007 4:24PM I went on low carb and ate enough fat to fry up a moose and lost 50 lbs.--fat does NOT make us fat. What does, as far as I've observed in all my years fighting my (not entirely successful) battle is that these things do--fried carbs and sugar and not much else. So--avoid the fries, keep sugar to a minimum, exercise sanely and even those of us with a cursed metabolism (like me) can manage. At some point we have to just eat NORMALLY--this cultural food obsession is a waste of time. We have better things to worry about--like the PLANET.
Good luck!
The Filipino Jennifer Hudson! {News Bloggers}
Nov 19th 2007 2:51AM Well, that was Korean on the screen, I think, and they tried to make her look very very young (maybe 11), but I would guess that WAS her singing and she was every bit as amazing as you said--what a talent! Hope to see much of her in the future. Would an actual NAME accompany this girl?
Greyhound gets a makeover {Gadling}
Nov 19th 2007 2:45AM My experience with Greyhound in Washington State has been pretty good--my experience with Mexicans has generally been pretty wonderful. Mind you, I am fluent in Spanish and happy to use it and I am also respectful rather than bigoted. Amazing how well people respond when you shown no disdain for them just because of nationality. I have had wonderful, happy conversations for hours in Spanish--me delighted by the chance to speak Spanish, they delighted by my ability and willingness--plus that aforementioned respect. Hispanics are the most rapidly growing minority in the US today; I would suggest that folks get over their prejudice and start getting to know the generally pretty nice folks who are coming in.
The Not So Good, the Bad, and the Uggs - Styledash picks the ugliest shoes ever {Stylelist}
Nov 12th 2007 1:52AM Um...I choose shoes so that I can both walk in them and continue to be ABLE to walk when I'm DONE walking in them. Pretty is as pretty feels and besides, these folks who announce that since THEY think they're ugly we must ALL think they're ugly are petty fashion tyrants anyway. And we all know that petty fashion tyrants must always either be ignored or defied ;)

Aug 15th 2007 11:22PM What about "Darling?" She is and so is the woman who saved her :)
Photoshop much? {Stylelist}
Jun 19th 2007 10:24PM Okay folks, we all have bodies and they vary widely in size and they're pretty much all beautiful in their own way. "Big Kel?" Come on. What is it in this culture that they want women to literally vanish? And why is it that the quality of a person seems meaningless in the face of the superficial? I agree with most of the posts so far--Kelly Clarkson is just normal.
As for Photoshopping her to make her look thin--maybe they did, maybe it's an old shot. Who knows for sure? It's done all the time in the media.
It should be observed that at least 75% of women become severely depressed after looking at such magazines. Real women either are born naturally slender, have curves or are starving. These days, far too many women are starving; there is ample medical evidence (roundly ignored by the average doctor and the diet industry) that dieting is doomed to fail. Being a normal American woman who has starved herself on and off for years, I could list the reasons that the average dieting success means keeping it off for only 5 years, but I actually don't have room.
Here's the thing--we are what we are. If people love us, the way we look (whatever that is) pleases those who love us because it's part of who we are. I think my skinny friends are gorgeous. So are my fat friends, "beautiful" friends, "plain" friends. They are all beautiful in my eyes and the only reason for them to change anything is if it helps their health.
Grow up America--try to value what is real. That's what lasts anyway.
World's Oldest Rock Stars {AOL Video Blog}
Apr 22nd 2007 4:28PM "They" are "us" fast forwarded in time. Did you stop being a person at any stage of your life? Do you think you will? Just because other people think you're an empty sack of aging flesh doesn't mean the person you are has vaporized. This sort of cool effort reminds us that we remain who we are throughout our lives and that it is a cruel cultural tradition to shove our elders into uselessness and isolation just because of physical age. Think about it--is that the future YOU want? Do you think any elders deserve it?
Never mind visiting an elder. If you're lucky enough to have them in your lives--involve them! Hang out! Be part of THEIR lives. Learn what they have to teach!
Don't waste our human treasures or they will be gone before we know it!
Beauty and the Obese {Blackvoices Main}
Apr 1st 2007 8:57PM Not all us white folk care what color the face is or what size the tushie is when a voice like Lakisha's or Melinda's has got us by the heart and is bringing tears to our eyes and standing our hair straight up with their power and beauty.
Personally, I don't have so narrow a view of what is beautiful. I think Lakisha and Melinda are gorgeous women and if other people are too shallow to see it, it sure is their loss. Me, I'll enjoy their beauty, as I see it, and then I'll close my eyes and let their voices transport me.
