Five ways to get the person in the seat next to you to stop talking {Gadling}
Nov 25th 2009 1:29AM All good tricks. I've deployed 1 and 3 before. Sometimes you do find the odd person who doesn't annoy you - a quick "Where are you going and what are you reading?" and then they clam up and leave you to it. I find these travellers to be the most friendly as they know when to keep to themselves. I've often exchanged e-mail addresses and I keep in touch with a few people.
On rare occasions, you get people who are the exact opposite though: http://unexpectedtraveller.wordpress.com/2009/05/04/patience/

How far will a man drive without asking for directions? {Gadling}
Nov 22nd 2009 6:54AM Pfft. It's not the lack of directions that matters to me but the odd ones that I get! My darling Soul-Soother (whom I love dearly) tends to be at fault: http://unexpectedtraveller.wordpress.com/2009/07/02/one-way-or-another/

AirTran tries to make money like an internet company {Gadling}
Nov 22nd 2009 6:36AM it would be interesting to see if AirTran is learning from European operators' mistakes. After all, there should be a case study of two showing whether these adverts work.
I fly AirMalta a lot and they've taken to doing this. The problem (as I see it) is that the adverts are not rotated - the same adverts have been there since Dec last year - and some adverts have been vandalised which means the message is no longer being put forward.
Interesting to see how this pans out.

Don't become a hermit: eight tips for solo business travelers {Gadling}
Nov 17th 2009 6:46PM 1 - Find out what's going on close by. Not all travel trips are to lovely locations but if you're places like NYC, you might be able to catch a show at a good price or maybe see an exhibit at a museum you would have otherwise missed.
2 - Keep a book with you and go find some place to read like a public garden or coffee shop
3 - Walk around the place to familiarise yourself with the geography.
4 - Start a blog like I did :-)

Galley Gossip: 5 tips for getting through airport security quickly {Gadling}
Nov 17th 2009 6:43PM I follow some of these tips but I agree with other commenters that it will vary from one airport to another.
My variations:
1 - Place all your metallic valuables (wrist watch, mobile phone, keys, wallet) into your hand luggage so there's no risk of anything getting left behind.
2 - Pack your hand luggage so the laptop is on top and you can whip it out quickly.
3 - Find a belt which has a buckle that is not made of metal (I've been looking for one for years and my g/f found one while on a shopping trip to Madrid - it's my best purchase ever!)
4 - Carry a small plastic shoe horn in your hand luggage if you need one with your shoes. Alternatively, wear slip-ons when travelling not lace ups

South Korean taxi drivers win right to watch TV in cabs, for now {Engadget}
Nov 5th 2009 7:40AM Well at least they know where they're going .. unlike the taxi drives in Sydney: http://unexpectedtraveller.wordpress.com/2009/09/03/taxing-my-patience/ and they also aren't all Vikings like in Oslo: http://unexpectedtraveller.wordpress.com/2009/02/02/the-viking-taxi-driver/
