Jul 13th 2011 7:27AM "Kid Friendly" should not equal bad behavior and brain-dead parents. I owned several restaurants and was amazed when parents allowed their childern to "play" in the reastarant, bother other customers and make a total mess while eating. Whn I considered the discounts on the food versus the labor costs used to clean up their mess and the lost business due to the child's behavior, it was clearly a profit loss. One word of advice parents; it's never too early to teach your children table manners!

Jun 14th 2011 6:12AM While attending a convention in Las Vegas last April I visited a new McDonald's several blocks off the Vegas strip and they require their employees to follow customers (mostly people of color including Hispanic) into the restroom to, according to an employee, “Be sure nothing is damaged or stolen!” I actually went into the restroom to see if this was true and sure enough the young man followed me into the restroom and stood there while I prepared to use the restroom! I turned around, as he was standing there looking at me urinate, and asked, “What are you doing?” He said, “I have to watch you while you are in the restroom.” I reported this to a group of corporate types sitting in the lobby as they were preparing for what I was told were Grand Opening celebrations. The man identifying himself as the franchisee said this “requirement” was to ensure excellent service like one would receive at the Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons. I did not know that customers needed this kind of assistance but I responded by saying that I've been to numerous Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton properties and I have never had an employee to follow me into the restroom and watch me while I urinate! He later admitted that they are trying to reduce vandalism even-though none had occurred. He said, “This is a brand new store and we want to keep it that way!” This franchise owner has lost touch with reality and should not accept money from people he does not trust or respect. If he is so uncomfortable that he cannot allow his customers privacy when they are relieving themselves he should have built his restaurant in an area he is more comfortable in. I have a question for McDonald’s Corporate-Do you condone this franchisees’ behavior and policy? Does he have other restaurants and has he enforced this policy in all of his restaurants or just the ones in minority areas?

Aug 8th 2010 3:37AM The writer, Ben Fowlkes, seems to be favoring the challenger and not the champion. Why not give Silva his due respect? He won; period! Doesn't matter how or when, as long as his opponent tapped-out to indicate he wanted to surrender. I wonder if Ben has ever stepped into the ring or does he merely comment on what others do?

Pro athletes are entertainers just like movie stars, singers and others. Their money comes from a percentage of the millions they generate for, in this case, Dan Gilbert. So they are worth it!
