Thrift stores: What to buy and what to skip {WalletPop}
Dec 19th 2007 2:28PM Salvation Army, Goodwill, Rabbits Recycle, and dozens of botique thrift stores all over the place.
I had to give up my house of ten years due to a death in the family and start over with nothing this year. I had $700.00 to meet all of my needs, and I fully, completely, absolutely outfitted my entire place with really nice stuff that suited my personal style. I even had enough left to buy a few brand new things.
Thrift stores are a real blessing.
The Biggest Mistake... {Politics Daily}
Dec 5th 2007 1:24PM This is a true journalistic question. Good job, Katie. You've always been known for facing tough interviewees with tought questions. I appreciate you.
Each candidate had the opportunity to be honest or to be politicly correct. I favor the ones who chose to be honest.
The question was not, "What is your biggest regret?" - I am referring to the healthcare answer in particular. It would have been more honest to say "I regret that people did not agree with me and pass my healthcare agenda into law when my husband and I served the country 8 years ago." That would have been an honest, if not on topic answer. It wasn't about regrets, it was mistakes. Own up to one. Everyone has them.
I am not a Rudy fan, but his answer, wow, it wasn't political. I loved it.
I don't mean to pick on her. She is uber intelligent, etc. However, I am tired of all politicians being asked poignant questions, that the voters want answers to and choosing to side step the question with an evasive, non-answer that promotes thier agenda. If you have the intellect to run for president, you have the ability to understand the questions being asked.
Six fixes for hunger {That's Fit}
Dec 5th 2007 11:22AM Please, don't follow Ofelia's advice. And God please send her help. I have struggled with weight all my life, but substituting one dangerously bad food relationship pattern for another just gives you another type of unhealthiness. We were designed for moderation. Excess of anything, food ("healthy" and decadent"), exercise, sleep, lack of sleep, spending, - excess of anything isn't healthy. you must achieve a balance.
Sneaky supermarket tricks that are keeping you fat {That's Fit}
Nov 6th 2007 1:14PM I worked in advertising. They are trying to get you to buy as much as they possibly can and using everything from sound to color display to location to smell to accomplish that goal, even 2fers and Bogo deals. However, as long as you buy it, they don't care if you eat it or not. Will power is in order. But the industry to tries to destroy your willpower spends a LOT of money to do it and to do it in such a way that you don't notice it. They are the same people who then sell you diet pills and exercise equipment.

Cookbooks have the potential to be a huge health risk {That's Fit}
Oct 31st 2007 3:31PM I think we would all agree, cookbooks are for special occasion cooking or for the beginner, as a starting point to learn. I don't know anyone in 2007 who eats a steady diet of cookbook foods unless it is a diet cookbook and then we go crazy. Let us all stop being paranoid and learn to live a life of balance. Either extreme is unhealthy.
The color of your tablecloth makes a difference {That's Fit}
Aug 22nd 2007 1:06PM I am extremely overweight and I am to blame, make no mistake. The reason, I love the taste of many foods. It is pleasant to try new things and it relieves stress (temporarily). That said, (I owned responsibility) I have always wanted a bright vibrant kitchen. Having just moved, I found myself instead buying navy and cream decor, dishes, etc. I have to say my eating has decreased considerably and I am eating more healthy choices. The questions is whether the color is the cause or an effect. Did I pick blue because my life is settling down now, I am less stressed, and the color reflects the lifestyle change that I have made? Or did I pick blue, and then it settled down and I am able to change. I think the color choice is an effect.
McDonald's brews up McCafes in Japan {Slashfood}
Jul 20th 2007 6:05PM If you build one (In Dallas, Texas) I will come. It's about time we could afford a good cup of joe. McD's does everything with consistency and excellence. They have something for everyone. Great idea, great company, and no, I do no own stock and have never worked in one, but I wish I had.
Panda Prison Break {AOL Video Blog}
Jul 9th 2007 6:19PM God made animals for man because it please him. We are their caretakers. We should make every effort to protect them and to be compassionate to them. But stop with all the cruelty to animals. What about all of the injurred animals that we are able to help and care for because of what we have learned in zoo research? Zoos should be as compassionate as possible and immitate the natural habitat.
Use common sense. The bible says that we all have it. Some choose not to use it.
Is it Time to Impeach Dick Cheney? {News Bloggers}
Jul 6th 2007 6:35PM Impeach. Wow, overreaction. It is always the right thing to do to stand against a tyrant. A very good friend once read me a poem, which I won't quote. But the jist is, if I don't ever take a stand for anyone else's safety, protection, freedom, hope, then there will be noone left to help me defend my own.
Providing help to others and to ourselves has a high high price. That is how we became a great country. If you are not willing to pay it, then at least man up and say you are afraid to stand against evil and you would rather suffer under it's authority. Don't try to tear down people who actually have the gutts to take a stand.
Sprint Dumps Problem Customers {Switched}
Jul 6th 2007 3:53PM Any utility provider is subject to this mess, but Sprint, AT&T and TXU are the worst. There isn't enough space to tell my story, but I'll give highlights. $600 cable bill for a house that NEVER HAD & DOESN'T HAVE cable, satelite, dish, etc. Instead of correcting the bill, they cut actual phone lines from house to power grid. So I bought 2 cell phones to communicate with my dieing mother while working. Cell phone bill of $800.00 the first month due excess usage ( I had a 2000 minute plan and only used 500.) Switched phone companies, and received bill for $1000 for oustanding cable and for disconnect. After 1 1/2 yrs and an attorney, still had to pay the bill to get service. If all customers were more proactive about supporting regulation, we could make it harder for these companies to bill this. We need a customer's bill of rights with an enforcement agency and some real bite to the penalties imposed on companies who don't meet the standard.
