which would have strangled the housing market? he would have been run out of town on a rail.

are likely to dwarf the residential problems. try to find that article regarding the 4 ugly letters (repo). not the usual interpretation of the acroynym. basically stands for interbank repurchase agreements related to collateralized day trading in primarily money market funds and rolling loans. that system is frozen. key word collateral especially in commercial real estate,
but for all types of biz that have shorter term financing.
business's of all types cannot roll their expiring loans. like a regular mortgage in some ways but very different in others. a
traditional mortgage is fixed payment and term for say 30 years.
these business loans are usually 3-5 years. many are maturing,
and even more coming balance of this year and next.

May 27th 2009 10:14AM on topic, gm should have been liqudated many moons ago. this patient has been in a coma for years and will not recover. it will emerge as some type of government supported entity but it will be gm, not GM.
