In Oregon, where we have domestic partnerships, in order to file a joint state tax return, my partner and I have to send a mocked up "As If" federal return (as if we were filing as married) along with our regular federal return. We're even supposed to write "AS IF" at the top. Rather than bothering, we opted to be single again.
