How Important is Middle School? {ParentDish}

Feb 11th 2011 6:18PM She ought to focus her energies on keeping her husband out of jail and out of the bottle, although she probably doesn't care any more than I do about that.

Airport Security: Is Israel the Answer? {Politics Daily}

Jan 9th 2010 8:59AM Behavior-Based Observation is an excellent tool for managing problems with people. Many years ago, BBO was the rage in business to address the drug-use problem and it worked well. Then the Pee-in-the-Bottle crowd took over and things have deteriorated. Pee-in-the-bottle is certainly cheaper than BBO.
But BBO can be hard work and it must be constantly applied for good results. If management gets lazy -- and lazy managers abound in the United States -- BBO breaks down.
Same with site security: Guards who really know the people authorized access to a site are much more effective than guards who only check credentials. But the credential-checking crowd have convinced managers that their brand of security works with lesser-paid guards. And the managers have chosen the cheap way. We need to rely on trained and motivated people for enhanced security, as Israel has learned. We can have all the newest whiz-bang machines in the world, but if the minimum-wage TSA employee isn't thoroughly trained or properly motivated, the whiz-bang machines aren't going to be effective. Management has to learn that they get what they pay for, in people as well as machines. And properly paid people are much more effective than expensive machines.

Family Feud: American Chopper's Paul Teutel Sr. reportedly sues Paul Jr. for over $1 million {Autoblog}

Jan 3rd 2010 2:03PM Why should I care? I quit watching the show after the first episode and didn't even think it was still around. I always thought it was a waste of bandwidth, and now it will be a waste of some poor judge's time as well. The judge ought to slap the old blowhard with a contempt citation and throw him in jail for being a public nuisance.

Wall Street Journal versus New York Times: It is so on! {Daily Finance}

Dec 15th 2009 10:16AM Ever since Rupert Murdoch bought WSW, it's becoming more and more like Fox TV and the New York Post. It's a rag with Rupert's 'special' view of the world. I suppose they'll soon call it 'Fair and Balanced' like Faux.
Rupert wants to sell his 'content', and I hope he succeeds in restricting access to his line of crap with search engines like Google. But for the meantime, if a news article references WSW or Fox, I ignore it. Not even worth clicking on it.

Thar's gold in them shills! Fox raps Glenn Beck's endorsement deal {Daily Finance}

Dec 8th 2009 9:52AM t would be a Very Good Thing to have Glen Beck thrown off Faux Spews. It would help to restore the lost image of 'fair and balanced' they so like to tell you, when we all know they aren't.
Dump Beck first, then O'Reilly, and Hannity, and a couple of the lesser blowhards, and maybe, just maybe, Faux Spews might rise to the level of a local news organization.

For guys with a short sexual fuse, a new spray may help delay the grand finale {Daily Finance}

AIG execs threaten to quit if pay is cut {Daily Finance}

Dec 7th 2009 5:43PM Fine. Let 'em quit. They'll change their rune if they find themselves still without a new job after a year, like the rest of us. Only problem is: they've already fot a ton of money from previous years that they couldn't have spent to fall back on, unlike the rest of us.
If they don't quit, and they have an MBA, fire 'em.

Oops, they missed it again: SEC had chance to nab Rajaratnam in 1998 {Daily Finance}

Dec 4th 2009 3:38PM Cut taxes! Get rid of regulations! Regulations hinder economic growth! Government is too big! These guys are too big to fail! Trust us!
Remember where all of that came from? Ronald Reagan. Now we're reaping the results of the neo-con 'trickle down' blather Reagan pushed when he was in office. Phil Gramm and Jake Garn and John McCain and Alan Greenspan and all the other schemers are largely responsible for the huge mess they created.
And now, the Republicans are chanting 'Cut taxes. Get rid of regulations. Government is too big!' Sorry, guys. I'm still not buying that blather. We need to tax the very rich parasites at a high rate and make sure the rest of us get a chance to play on a level field. We need Government to make sure the very rich republicans aren't scamming the system like they did when Reagan was in charge.

Can Washington break the deflationary spiral? {Daily Finance}

Nov 25th 2009 5:32PM The Party of NO -- Republicans -- control most of the businesses that have been laying off employees. The Party of NO -- Republicans -- wants to see Obama fail, so the Party of NO -- Republicans -- are not about to rehire the employees they laid off until the country has decided that Obama failed. It's the perfect sabotage.
What the Party of YES should do is Nationalize the industries that received bail-outs and did n't reciprocate with jobs.
The Party of NO is demonstrting precisely how to be POOR SPORTS. If they were my kid, I'd spank them until they couldn't sit down. MAybe we could do that next November. Get rid of all the obstructionists in the Party of NO -- Republicans.
