Are you America's "most frustrated traveler"? {Gadling}
Oct 29th 2010 7:03PM Two weeks ago I set out to finally book my ticket to somewhere in Latin America. I've done Europe a number of times and was in Central America this past December. My plan was simple - semi flexible dates in an admittedly peak period (Dec 15th-17th departure, Jan 1st-4th return) and an open ended approach to possible destinations.
I've had an Alaska Airlines mileage card for years. Unsurprisingly that same card has had the same mileage on it for years. After trying to use it the first few times I abandoned it for a CapitalOne cash back card which is actually traveler friendly.
Long story short I called in 2 months in advance, with semi-flexible dates and no specific destination in mind. My call lasted for 45 minutes. During the course of that call I had the rep start by checking whole countries - I wasn't picky. Peru? Zero availability. Bolivia? Nahh. Ecuador, Argentina, Columbia, Aruba, the Dutch Antilles, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico? Nope. Frustrated I had her widen the net to Asia: Vietnam? Cambodia? Thailand? Malaysia? The Philippines? Nothing! Finally in desperation I figured I'd have her check more off-season destinations, but even as I had her pull up Greece and Turkey I already knew the answer.
With 2 months notice and semi-flexible dates I wasn't able to find a SINGLE mileage friendly flight across 3 continents and 18 countries. All this via a premium service I’m paying nearly $100/year for. The worst? Probably not. Dreadful? Oh yeah.

Brutally honest Ryanair CEO says: "go away" to demanding passengers {Gadling}
Aug 3rd 2009 5:16PM It's really like riding the bus. You're only disappointed by Ryan Air if you go into it with inaccurate expectations and don't listen.
I recently used RyanAir during a trip to fly from Dublin to Edinburgh. There were two of us - we paid close attention and played by the rules. The trip for the two of us - cost 44 Euro total, with 1 checked bag.
That's fair.
The really pathetic part is that as basic as RyanAir is - their service isn't - that - much worse than most domestic American airlines service. Flying with US Airways is only a slightly better experience for 10x+ the cost.
