The top 5 myths about getting upgraded {Gadling}

Jun 2nd 2009 7:30PM #2 can also be seen as a security issue.

May 28th 2009 12:05PM I wonder if Allegiant will wiggle around and start competing with them into some of these cities.

May 12th 2009 2:18PM yea, they're blocking Skype and video chat. People are pissed and trying to find a way around it, but the fact is the overwhelming majority of people DO NOT want chatty cell phone users on planes.

Galley Gossip: Nut allergies on the airplane {Gadling}

May 12th 2009 2:13PM Although.. that study cited was a *self-reported* study. the fact is, VERY FEW people are actually that allergic to peanuts. (Yes, I know, this is where the mommybloggers flood in and say "b.b.b.but MY child is hyper allergic and can DIE if they breathe in a peanut particle!") and the overwhelming majority of people can self medicate. Take a benadryl. Actual anaphylactic reactions to peanut products are extremely rare.

"Telephone questionnaires were administered to individuals in a peanut, tree nut, and seed allergy database who self-reported reactions aboard aircraft"
They called people that had already self-reported (no actual medical verification) allergies to nuts/etc, and then they asked them if they had the reaction on an aircraft. 41 out of 471 said yes. Again, these are people that are *self-reporting.* That is HUGE when it comes to publishing studies.

Now we're banning *aromas* from buildings.

Anyway, the point is that far more people suffer allergic reactions to pet dander, yet pet owners insist on being able to bring their pocket dogs into aircraft cabins. Those against it are basically told to quit whining. The number of people that suffer peanut allergies is about 1.5% of the human population and a tiny fraction of those actually suffer a severe peanut allergy. People consider itching and watery eyes to be a 'severe' allergic reaction when it really is not.

Galley Gossip: A question about Southwest Airlines, AirTran Airways, and other airlines who may be hiring flight attendants {Gadling}

May 6th 2009 12:30PM Oh, since it's too late to comment on the other article about Southwest..

AirTran had a rather profitable quarter and is hiring. Southwest lost millions. The trend could continue as well. So, you never know! Both are decent airlines. I prefer AirTran over Southwest personally. Your mileage may vary. :-D

* I'd love to but I'm TOO TALL. ;-)

6'3" in shoes makes me too tall for AirTran.
