Valedictorians often make that mistake, blathering on and on about ME, MY goals, MY life, MY struggles and sacrifices, and so forth, without linking all of it to the rest of their class. Here we have someone who deliberately said something weird just to score a few ducats when it had even less to do with the ceremony than even an ordinary self-absorbed speech would have. It's a scummy, lowlife thing to do.
