Santa Monica Latest City to Fight to Get Circumcision Ban on Ballot {ParentDish}
Jun 6th 2011 2:53PM I'd also like to point out that there are groups trying to ban abortion and the majority is horrified that the government is trying to ban women's rights and pass laws that affect her body. Why is this any less horrifying?
Santa Monica Latest City to Fight to Get Circumcision Ban on Ballot {ParentDish}
Jun 6th 2011 2:45PM I've seen the videos these idiots put out. If I hadn't witnessed circumcision with my own eyes, I'd be horrified, too. The actual procedure, when performed in religious ceremony or in a pediatrician's office is nothing like what is seen in the videos. I have two sons. I was beside them when they had it done. My oldest was done by a pediatrician and my youngest had a religious ceremony. They cried more when they had to have shots and blood tests. The procedure took mere moments and the crying stopped in less than a minute. If I had watched something like what they did on the video, I would have never done it to a second son. Not in a million years.
Not to mention, they're using the term "genital mutilation," which refers to the practice of some cultures that mutilate women's genitals so that they cannot experience sexual pleasure. Men who are circumcised still experience sexual pleasure. Just ask them.
This is an all-out attack on religious freedom and the freedom of choice. I would have had it done no matter what my religious beliefs, and I'd like to see someone try to stop me!

Don't Be Scared of Walking to School (or Even the Bus Stop) {ParentDish}
Sep 27th 2010 5:03PM In Moreno Valley,CA, 30 min. from my house, a girl was abducted and murdered by 3 men who still haven't been caught, while walking home from summer school. In several nearby cities even closer than Moreno Valley, there have been reports of abduction or abduction attempts at least once a week. If that's your idea of safe, then I would hate to see your view of unsafe!
GPSing Your Kid is Crazy! {ParentDish}
Sep 27th 2010 4:57PM GPS is not limited to cell phones, and if the criminal throws it out, at least the cops have a lead to where the child was abducted, not to mention possible finger prints on the phone to find the abductor.

GPSing Your Kid is Crazy! {ParentDish}
Sep 27th 2010 4:52PM When I was in kindergarten, my bus driver kidnapped me. Thankfully, the police found the bus before the driver could get away with me. If I had GPS, they would have found me much sooner. Because of my own experience I've always been extra watchful of my children. I give them freedom to go places, but I always know who they're with and keep in touch by phone.
Years later, my daughter ran away from school and we spent hours looking for her in a panic. We finally found her, but it was really scary because she had recently broken up with a boy who turned out to be crazy, and we didn't know if she left of her own will or had been abducted. We got GPS after that.
When I couldn't find my son after school one day, I went into a panic. Then, I called his father (we're divorced and on a separate plan). He GPS'd our son and found he was still on campus. I calmed down and waited for him to come out. It turned out he had a meeting after school and forgot to tell me. It was a relief to me. I would have been frantic had I not had GPS to let me know he hadn't gone anywhere.
GPS shouldn't be relied upon as a babysiter, nor should it be relied upon as a definite way to find them if they are abducted. On the other hand, if your child does disappear, it can be used as a possible way to locate them, and it can be used to locate them when they aren't where they should be to help calm frayed nerves. While it isn't 100% perfect, it's better than nothing.
Ask Gadling: Car rental scams, overcharges and paying for damages you didn't cause {Gadling}
Aug 31st 2010 9:16PM I totally disagree about not getting the insurance from the rental car agency. Spending a few bucks now can save you a fortune and a hassle in the long run.
When I've had to use a rental car in the past, I find it easier to buy the insurance. It costs more money, but you can practically set the car on fire and not get charged (Not that I would do somethng like that!). I was rear ended by a drunk driver while in a rental car, and because I bought the extra insurance, they not only took the car back with no hassle and immediately provided a replacement, they even offered to replace my son's car seat (The drunk driver's insurance paid for this, so I didn't need it.). I had the car for 2 months (I had a car accident.) and ended up paying just under $300 for the insurance. It was well worth the extra money.
I also had a friend who's rental was broken into and the door damaged. She had no hassle or problem because of the insurance. Yes, her own insurance would have covered it, but she would have had a deducible to pay that would have far exceeded the amount of money she paid to have that extra insurance. She had the car for one week and paid $7/day for the insurance. Her deductible was $500 with her car insurance. It still worked out well.
Win a Puma Cardiac Watch {That's Fit}
Jul 29th 2010 3:52PM My 13 year old son wants to start living a healthier lifestyle and is on a supervised exercise routine. He isn't on a diet, we always eat balanced meals at home and try to make healthier choices when we're away from home. He's never been big on exercise, though. I believe a watch like this would really help to encourage him to keep it up. His father's family has many weight-related health problems, and he does not want to end up like them. It's his choice, and I want to do my best to support him whenever he decides to make good choices like this one.
Moviefone Minute: Finally, Some On-Screen Janis and Will Smith: Biblical Vampire? {Moviefone Blog}
Jul 19th 2010 9:52PM The idea of a biblical vampire is not new. In Bordello of Blood, the head vampire is Lillith. In Dracula 2000, Dracula is none other than Judas. Biblical vampires are not new, but I'd still like to see Will Smith's take on the whole thing.
