Come on out and visit The Crooked Road: Virginia's Heritage Music trail which begins here in Rocky Mount Virginia. Franklin County has more wing dings than any other along this trail. We also have more moonshine... or so it goes (see the movie LAWLESS about our claim to fame)

Jul 20th 2010 3:48PM An the owner of an inn, we want you to use the bathroom amenities,we buy organic natural soaps and shampoos - and believe it or not many rating companies, like AAA requie indivi logo's bottles, yeah wasteful is right!
If you have your own shampoos etc, why not leave them for the next person. Don't take every little thing that is not nailed down, it is kinda grey-haired-lady-esque, you know, who keep zip lock baggies in their purse and when they order tea at a restaurant pilfer the whole lot into their hand bags, including the mini moos. LOL
PS help yourself to sodas and snacks any time at our B&B...they are there for you. But no need to show yourself greedy.
Cruise line worker accused of using inside information to burglarize passengers homes {Gadling}
Jun 14th 2010 5:14PM As an innkeeper, we get calls asking if so and so is there, or "I am just double checking on my reservation" and yet they have no details. We won't give THEM the details, they need to give them to us. We need to always be super careful to guard all confidential innformation for this reason.
If you call our inn, you will never be given anything on anyone. People get ticked at this, but when the caller ID says FLA and the guest cell or home ph is Newbraska we call that a red flag!
We take all personal details carefully and they are never disclosed to a third party, ever. It is a shame to not trust anyone, but we all have to have our safeguards in place!

Jun 14th 2010 4:29PM Stephen, I heard today that Virginia might yet be able to have the film "Wettest County in the World" filmed here vs in West Virginia. VA film office is working hard...so ask Dad if he would like or you would like to be an extra. :)
What part of SW VA was he from? I am in Franklin Co (therefore the Wettest County in the World comment). Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful Dads! You deserve more than a day...but alas the lawns must be mowed...esp in SW VA where twice a week is still a shortfall.

Heck we just had guests here from NYC on vintage BMW Motorcycles who rode this famous road...the Grand Dame of all Drives!!
2010 she celebrates her 75th, get on out here and enjoy this road of 469.1 miles with NO STOPS!!!

Tennessee wants to tax complimentary hotel breakfast {Gadling}
Mar 11th 2010 7:38AM Its called a MEALS TAX and it is already enforced in our little town, and as a B&B we have been required to pay it all along. I have fought it for years and said, NO GUEST HAS EVER PURCHASED BREAKFAST HERE. It is complimentary, as is coffee, sodas, afternoon refreshments - take it or leave.
The town attorney is still looking into it, so I have to fill out the form to pay monthly taxes - sales tax, lodging tax and this meals tax. On the form I put 1 cent per guest per meal.
In the beginning, I mean it is ridiculous - you can't charge a guest a tax on something they are not paying for. and how much? How much is this free breakfast?
They need to back off. Lodging establishments are going under, people losing their income right now, they need to support them, not hike their taxes!
