I also developed a fear of flying after motherhood, which surprised me since I grew up in a Continental employee's family and we flew standby all the time. For me, it's not the turbulence but the fear that I'm putting my daughter's mommy in a risky situation. I logically know cars are less safe, but I can't avoid my freeway commute and must simply deal with that risk.
Now that my daughter is 8, she's excited to fly, but I just turned down another vacation opportunity in Las Vegas in lieu of a staycation. Maybe next year. It's starting to feel a little silly to miss out.
