iMac's latest 27-inch iteration requires special parts for your own SSD in second drive bay {Engadget}
Jul 29th 2010 3:43PM If you order this iMac without the SSD option, can you go back to an AppleStore later and have the SSD installed (at Apple's inflated prices)?
I raise this point because people here are up-in-arms about a computer that is designed and sold by Apple to be non-upgradeable. This is how it has been since the first fruity iMac was sold.
Yes, Apple is a closed system. They are extremely proprietary. Yes they overprice. We all know this. America, love it or leave it. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. You know what people, you have hundreds of other choices if you don't want to toe Apple's line.
Want upgradeabilty? Get a MacPro.
Mac OS X 10.6.2 update out on the prowl (update: Atom support is gone) {Engadget}
Nov 10th 2009 1:06PM @ Sam Beckett
For a guy who has degrees in Medcine, Physics, Engineering and 4 others, I find it hard to believe you have difficulty using an OS designed for "regular folks".
All that time travelling really did turn your brain to Swiss cheese........
Heterosexual couple booked on a gay cruise sues cruise line {Gadling}
Oct 19th 2009 7:28PM You do know you are going on a cruise with predominantly striaght people right? Herin is the problem; this straight couple DID NOT know it was a Gay cruise. I would be pissed off if I were gay, planning a Disney Cruise with my partner and kids and I was booked in this cruise. Let's not play naive here, gay cruise implies things that are not meant for kids to see. Are some some things on singles cruises, Hedonism cruises etc. These two middle aged folk probably did not want to see these things as well.
What most of you don't get is this is not a gay vs. striaight issue. The issue is misrepresentation or lack thereof.
Littmann Electronic Stethoscope lets docs record, analyze heart rhythm {Engadget}
Aug 21st 2009 1:50PM Can we keep things like these out of the hands of medical students, interns and even some residents.
Doctors nowadays seem to be so reliant on technology they've lost the "clinical eye". While I appreciate the need for innovation, gadgets like these (as well as secondary tests and opinions) should confirm and coroborate not decide a clinician's diagnosis.
You want to improve the stethoscope, how about an earpiece that would allow me to keep it in my ear for more than 20 min. without getting uncomfortable. Rubber tubing that does not get brittle or hard with age or being exposed to extremes in temperature. A self heating/sterilizing diaphragm.
BlackBerry Desktop Manager coming to Mac in September {Engadget}
Jul 20th 2009 3:11PM I'm currently using Marc/Space's MissingSync with an 8120 and I'm really satisfied with it. I know it's $40 but I do get call logs, sms log and folder syncing in addition to what it seems the screenshot of this app is offering. What Missing Sync does not offer though and this looks like it does is a complete back up of the unit
Still, if it is free and works with my pearl,I'll be getting it. Just for the backup feature and for firmware updates. Can't wait!
Nikon D300S screen leaks out {Engadget}
Jun 13th 2009 12:56AM I'll wait for a sub $1500 body with an FX ( full frame) sensor. Not really interested in video but I'd like to be able to use the "good" Nikon glass without the crop factor......
BTW, not to start a flamewar here but I was at Legoland (San Diego) today and most of the DSLRs I saw were Nikons (D60s to D300s), There was eve a Grandma alternating shooting her three granddaughters (with their parents) with a D300 and a Canon 3CCD prosumer camcorder. Annoying! Not only that the brood was noisy as hell and held up the line but the fact that the grandma was treating her gear like a point and shoot! I wanted to shove my D50 in her hands and say "here, use this. It has scene modes. Let me make proper use of that camera!"

"Jefferson Neyen: I base my judgement on all the Mac users I see and interact with every day, not some uber nerds you claim to know"
Ah, that expalins it. By your own admission you run with a crowd of stupid people. Birds of a feather.......
Soon, you'll have to pay for Hulu {Daily Finance}
Jun 3rd 2009 4:56PM Give me all my local channels for free, alacarte for other shows ( all in HD) , the ability to watch natively in Apple's Front Row, Window's Media Center and Linux's Myth and I'll CONSIDER paying. That would be worth ditching my cable company.
Teen invents pen-sized pico projector while your kid's busy beating up honor roll students {Engadget}
Jun 3rd 2009 4:21PM The word 'invent" has been thrown around this comment several times. This kid has not invented anything. He conceptualized something. Having an idea and building a working prototype are vastly different things (as several people already mentioned before me).
In a couple of years when someone actually builds this thing and tries to market it, this kid will sue and there is the brilliance of it all. He used the patent system to fund his college and possibly post-graduate studies.
Smart kid though. I'll give him that.

Just asking......
