Pigeon transmits data faster than leading South African internet provider {Engadget}
Sep 18th 2009 3:46PM Genius. The best part is truly that the pigeon was indeed faster than South African ADSL line. Kind of depressing, but this makes such a great point. Hopefully, the government will take some heed and not just notice the pigeon story. Hopefully, they actually do something about the incredibly sluggish internet/cable throughout the country. Otherwise, Unlimited IT (as well as other businesses) might have to permanently switch to the pigeon.
I watched a short, but well-made video on the whole pigeon/internet affair at newsy.com earlier today. The video gives a little context to the story and cites a few different sources/viewpoints. It's worth watching if you have just a couple of minutes:

Feds Plan To Keep Schools Open In Case of Swine-Flu Epidemic {ParentDish}
Aug 28th 2009 5:00PM Wow, I had not heard that statistic about the H1N1 virus potentially hitting 50% of the U.S. population. That would be horrific. But, as of now, I'm glad schools/the education boards are already discussing what to do with schools. Still, I honestly don't know if their decision to keep schools open unless there are severe epidemics is the best decision. I suppose each mother/father can still choose to remove their children from the schools if they so choose. The schools are certainly going to have to take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.
And then there are those that are refusing to take or accept the newest vaccination expected to be available in winter. Viewing the vaccine as too risky for a healthy person's consumption, many nurses, doctors and other medical experts do not believe everyone should take this questionable vaccine.
There is an interesting video at newsy.com on this issue. Check it out:

China Exiles the Dalai Lama - Again! {Gadling}
Mar 11th 2009 6:27PM It is hard to fathom that this has been the reality in Tibet for 50 years--a free speech and religion-suppressed country still existing under the manipulative Chinese government. China never fails to amaze me with its extensively-planned efforts at hiding and reconstructing the sad truths going on within its country (and within nations like Tibet). Although the determined and well-planned efforts of activists, students and reporters has continued unfailingly for the past few decades, it is hard to imagine that anything significant can actually be accomplished between these two countries unless there is outside pressure. I watched an interesting video on all of this at newsy.com earlier today. The video highlights the main opinions on this issue and is certainly worth watching. Take a look:

Stimulus bill pumps up plug-ins, public transit, trains, smart grid {Autoblog Green}
Feb 16th 2009 6:30PM As far as energy vehicles and a more efficient energy system in this country goes, I believe the stimulus bill will ultimately help. I certainly hope it does. While not exactly the same situation that FDR was presented with in the 30's and 40's, it is difficult not to see the parallels between his infrastructure goals and those of President Obama. With more efficient energy means will (ideally) come more independent energy spending, more newly created jobs, and a cleaner environment altogether. Therefore, those wanting to "go green" in the near future would appear to be winners through this bill. I watched an interested video on the "Winners & Losers" of the stimulus package earlier. It's worth watching:
