Don't Be Fooled by These 12 Common Pet Myths {Pawnation OLD}
Jan 29th 2011 9:29AM "nicnic" seems to be a sadistic jerk. I sure hope he doesn't have children!
Barbara Walters Says Paula Deen Makes Kids Fat {ParentDish}
Sep 25th 2009 3:46PM How can anyone watch this show? Everyone is talking at the same time and it's all just inane drivel. None of these people have the good manners to let one person speak so that the audience can figure out what they are discussing.
I also think that Paula Deen makes unappetizing food. I watched in disgust as she mixed something up with her bare hands and she was wearing 3 or 4 huge rings at the time. That may be OK when cooking at home, but when I see it on television, I just cringe and change the channel. Also her voice hurts my ears.
Girl Survives Seven-Story Fall {Lemondrop}
Aug 21st 2009 5:34PM Hey Jeanne,
There is a more obvious alternative; BIRTH CONTROL. After the first 4 or 5 kids, I would take some responsibility and look into it. The U.S. isn't a third world country and yet the "underprivileged" and low income people refuse to use birth control that would be practically free for the asking. We have higher infant mortality rates and teen pregnancy rates than most other developed countries. I din't care a bit about "out-of-wedlock" children. I care about abused, neglected and forgotten children.
I sincerely hope that the little girl recovers, but I also hope that the parent takes some responsibility for the safety of all of those kids, and doesn't have any more.
Don't be "that" tourist - things to avoid when you are abroad {Gadling}
Aug 19th 2009 9:43AM Nearly all of these comments are refreshingly kind and helpful instead of xenophobic and chauvanistic. It's just so nice to come across this instead of the nasty, insulting, racist garbage that so often appears after an article.
Having said that, I do think that the t-shirt subject is relevant. I have lived in and traveled around Europe for many years and for the past twenty or so Americans, (and some others, of course) have gotten really sloppy. While I can understand that a tourist needs to feel comfortable, that doesn't mean they should walk around wearing dingy t-shirts and baggy, stinky blue jeans, and worst of all, those huge white sneakers.
Those butt-ugly things make both men and women look like the backside of an elephant, (my apologies to the elephants). Please, show a little class and just wear some decent walking shoes and something other than jeans and XXXL t-shirts. I can easily overlook the fanny packs because when I'm going from airport to airport, I have found that a backpack and small, discreet fanny pack are perfect for keeping my hands free for maneuvering luggage and easy access to my passport and tickets.
French tourists voted worst in the world {Gadling}
Jul 11th 2009 9:34PM I've been to France many times and have always enjoyed the scenery, food and the people. Even Paris gets better with every trip and I have found the Parisians to be helpful and polite. I don't act like a typical American, British or German tourist by talking too loud and dressing like a clod, (baggy t-shirts with dumb sayings on them, huge white sneakers and dirty blue jeans). It seems as though alot of Americans feel so threatened by the French that they over-react and come across as arrogant and smug. I have been in pretty many countries, (sometimes as a solo female, sometimes with companions) and if I try to remember my most negative experience as a traveler, it was actually in Philadelphia at the airport where I encountered the rudest, most unprofessional and sloppiest-looking people of all.
I have always tried to represent the US in a positive way when I am in a foreign land and have found that good manners and just using a few basic native language phrases has always been appreciated.
Just because one is American doesn't mean that you can criticize other countries, but when someone criticizes the US, (fairly or unfairly), it's OK to insult them and to act superior.
The Most Irritating Phrases in the English Language {Lemondrop}
Feb 9th 2009 2:33PM Anything with "like"; "I'm like whoa!", "She's like huh?", and to make it even worse, using a "valley girl" (nasal) baby voice, even when a woman is over 30.
I find it hard to take anyone seriously when they can't express themselves without using "like" for every 3rd word in a sentence.
