The Weird Things People Eat Around the World {Gadling}

Mar 7th 2009 2:13AM Wow, many of these things look totally disgusting! I was intrigued to look up the snake fish and I found that it is a type of mud fish that is often used as a dipping sauce. It's a peasants food typically and when used in speech it usually has a negative connotation. When someone has a dirty mouth its sometimes referred to as having a 'plah rah' mouth, the name of the dish.
I read an article a few weeks ago on a few people dying over blow fish testicles, a delicacy on Japan. It's 100 times more poisonous than potassium cyanide and the victims can feel themselves dying as the process only takes about an hour and a half. It is accompanied by excruciating pain and limb paralysis. Yet people still consume it because it makes a man look 'manly' and the ladies dig that shit I guess?

7 hospitalized after eating blowfish testicles {Gadling}

Feb 7th 2009 11:11AM After reading this I did some looking around on the internet and found that eating blow fish testicles is actually supposed to make a man more virile. I don't know what it is about blow fish testicles that would make a man..manlier.. but apparently that's the case. The symptoms are pretty intense as well, including limb paralysis and unconsciousness. To me it seems like perhaps if you are unconscious you may not be portraying the image of 'virility.'
Eating this tasty treat may not be worth the risks of respiratory failure and perhaps death, but I guess if you really want to look tough...

Town in Tuscany bans ethnic food {Gadling}

Feb 7th 2009 10:49AM While I agree that it should be important to officials to preserve the look of one of their most beautiful cities, banning ethnic foods should not be allowed. I feel like as long as the restaurants do not go out of their way to change the look of the surrounding area then it should be fine. Italy is a huge tourist location and ethnic diversity in food places should be allowed as it most likely promotes prosperity. Tourists of all different heritages and countries come to Italy and I am sure that it is pleasant to be able to enjoy their own favorite foods in a quaint and beautiful city. All in all I think that smothering the ability to form whatever kind of cuisine one desires in a restaurant should not be allowed. Something like this would be unheard of in America, but then again I suppose not many places in America offer the same feel as Lucca.
