Does Your Name Spell Success? {AOL Jobs}
Feb 4th 2010 12:28PM What nonsense! How can a first name possibly have anything to do with intelligence? This is sheer coincidence, not scientific analysis. I must tell you that my name is Charlie and I have an IQ of 150. I not only made good grades in college, but have achieved career success as well. Two of my best friends have names beginning with the letter "D;" both are not only bright but extremely talented and successful people. This kind of pseudo-scientific claptrap now permeates the internet. AOL should be ashamed for publishing such tripe.
Vikings' Adrian Peterson Can Beat Cowboys' Pass Rush {Fanhouse NFL Blog}
Jan 15th 2010 5:17PM While Peterson may help keep the pass rush off of Favre, who is going to stop the Dallas running game, which has piled up more yardage than the Vikings'? Moreover, how do the Vikings propose to stop the Dallas passing attack which has more yardage than Favre and company. The best chance for the Vikes is to watch Dallas penalize itself into impossible third-and-long situations, which has hindered their ability to score all year. The Vikings are second only to the Saints in scoring, while the Cowboys rank 13th -- mainly due to poor field position for starting drives and those pesky penalties. But to counter that, Dallas owns the second-best defense against scoring in the NFL, allowing only 15.6 points per game. Over the last four games, the Cowboys have given up an average of fewer than 8 points per game, holding the Saints to 17, pitching two shutouts, and then allowing 14 points to the Eagles in their last game. These two teams are about as evenly matched as you'll see this playoff season. It should be one for the ages; Tarkenton vs. Staubauch redux.
Which is Right for You? PC vs Mac {Shopping Articles Blog}
Aug 7th 2009 8:24PM Fascinating. A virtual 100% endorsement of the Mac. How can they occupy only 3.5% of the market? I bought my first PC in 1985 and have never ventured into MacLand, except to try to help my brother-in-law to get his Mac to work. I guess I've had 15 PCs since then, not including those at the office, and I'm mystified by all the reports of crashes, error messages, etc. Usually these have nothing to do with the OS, but are caused by asking too much of your computer, i.e., having too many programs open at once and not having sufficient RAM. Memory upgrades for PCs are cheap, easy to install, and can make your stodgy PC fast as lightning. Macs, IMHO, are cute and very, very expensive. The last PC I bought has a 3.06 Ghz processor, 2.5 gigabytes of RAM, a flat screen monitor, and a 200 gigabyte hard drive. It cost $600.

Top 25 Optical Illusions on the Web 5 {Switched}
Dec 12th 2008 10:22AM The figures are the same size, but the more distant one (the one that appears larger) is outlined in white, which adds to the perspective illusion. To prove this, simply click on "print screen" and then paste the image into your computer's "paint" program. Now use the select tool to pick out either one of the images and drag it to the side of the other. You will see that they are indeed the same size. But don't forget the white outlining on one figure. It enhances the illusion.
The Once-Over: Week 14 {Fanhouse NFL Blog}
Dec 6th 2008 10:25AM Anybody checked the Steeler offense lately? They rank 21st in the NFL. Roethlisberger is the 23rd ranking QB and has been sacked 33 times. The Cowboys have the 9th ranked offense (and rising), the 9th ranked defense (also rising), the second-most sacks in the NFL (40) and the top-ranked QB. In spite of all that, the torn-up field and the frigid weather favors the Steelers.
Texas' Stylish Road to the Big 12 Title {Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog}
Nov 27th 2008 11:06AM Under any system of logic, If Texas, OU and TTech win out, Texas should be in the Big 12 Championship game. Here's why:
Texas beat OU on a neutral field, i.e., no home field advantage.
Head to head is the first and most important tie-breaker.
Texas played more highly ranked opponents (four of the top eleven), winning three of four, and played them on successive weekends. This was the toughest schedule faced by any team in college football this season, not just the Big 12. OU played only two teams ranked in the top eleven, and defeated only one of them.
If "style points" means running up the score, then OU will lead in that category, but not by a huge margin. Texas is a high-scoring team, too, averaging 43 points per game vs. OU's 52. Texas had a slightly stinger defense, allowing 17.6 points per game to OU's 20.8.
The only scenario in which Texas does not advance to the Big 12 Championship game would be a squeaker against A&M tonight, or a huge blowout of Oklahoma State by OU on Saturday.
Red River Rout? {Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog}
Oct 11th 2008 9:22AM Probably an accurate assessment, but one of the most poorly written sports columns I've seen in a long time. I lost count of the pitiful attempts at humorous analogy about halfway through. It was like sitting through amateur night at at a small town comedy club.
Decoding the Emotional Affair {Personal Articles}
Oct 3rd 2008 7:04PM There is absolutely nothing wrong with male female relationships outside marriage, so long as the people involved use good sense. First, don't lie about the friendship. Tell your spouse you have a friend at work (or wherever) that you are very fond of. If you have lunch occasionally or go for coffee or email or telephone, tell your spouse that you are doing these things. Make certain your spouse is sure of your commitment and love and that your friend represents no threat. We need friends -- close friends. They are precious and rare. Mature, intelligent people know this and recognize the importance of having friends of both sexes that we can confide in and have fun with. Marriage should never be a boring one-way street with fear of infidelity lurking around every corner. If a sexual affair results, it has nothing to do with the friendship -- it has to do with problems within the primary relationship. Attempting to make male-female friendships appear to be dangerous is the latest ploy of the mental health community that creates non-existent marital crises and then reaps the benefit of new clients who believe they are involved in "emotional affairs." Tell the truth about your friendships, behave honestly and openly about them, and stop reading dumb articles like this one.
Decoding the Emotional Affair {Personal Articles}
Oct 3rd 2008 6:03PM Hooray for people who posted here who have a solid grasp on reality and a healthy confidence in their own emotional integrity. This hullabaloo about "emotional affairs" is the latest poppycock to come from the "mental health" community, always looking for new crises and new clients. How in the world did the whole idea of friendship become so distorted?
