Spiritual Guidance: Too many Disc Priests? {WoW}
Feb 22nd 2009 8:55PM When did you try this? Before the spec changes in 3.0 disc priests were barely better than shadow for PvE. Rapture, Penance and all the new deeper talents are what changed that.
Also, you're talking about doing a few levels? What levels? I think the talents which make disc really effective in PvE are so deep in there that it doesn't really come into it's own until much higher levels than holy.
I'm not sure if you're talking about disc prior to the talent tree changes in 3.0 or when leveling without access to the deeper disc talents that made it truely effective for PvE.
If it's neither of the above then I'm baffled but how you can find it so much less effective. I healed all of the TBC raids as holy priest. I've tried both specs in wrath and I don't feel any less effective in disc spec, my strengths are just in different places and to be honest those differences don't even manifest in a meaningful way until heroic raid content when there are enough people to clearly make the difference between tank and raid healers.
Spiritual Guidance: Too many Disc Priests? {WoW}
Feb 22nd 2009 7:19PM I also have a Prot Warrior and a Disc Priest. I often play the with a friend who specs disc too so I know how it "feels" from both sides. It's much as you'd expect from playing your priest though.
You'll notice you're pretty secure going into pulls with shield & pom up (or just even pom with shield at the ready). After that I think you'll find disc priests will either flash heal you quickly or let you drop in health more depending on the situation but I don't worry so much with a disc priest if I drop low because i know they can stop it with a shield and burst-heal me up quickly.
Does overhealing matter? {WoW}
Feb 3rd 2009 6:29PM It's about using the appropriate spell though. If you were using a high mana spell to kill something that a low mana spell would one-shot then that would be more akin to overhealing. On the other hand overhealing and playing well are not always mutually exclusive, sometimes raid healing spells might overheal one target but be more efficient and faster overall. You also want to keep your tank topped up to full no matter how much health he is missing so you know he has the best chance of surviving the next hits.
As the article says, overhealing is inevitable but large amounts of overhealing can be a sign of a player lacking judgement, skill and knowlege about his/her class. Sure, if you're not running out of mana (and with regen the way it is, that is likely) then it doesn't really matter but it's also good to try and play well now instead of worrying about later when the encounters may be harder or mana consumption/regeneration might be rebalanced.
