Dirtiest Hotels in the United States {Gadling}
Jan 31st 2009 10:53AM A colleague and I travelled to Detroit to do some work for a University. Our hotel accomodations were arranged by a third-party source who put us in a Day's Inn in Detroit. The hotel was also used as subsidized housing for welfare folk who spilled Cheese Curls and other food in the elevator on a daily basis and went down the elevator in their bathrobes to send their 18 kids off to the school bus. There was profanity written on the doors, filth in the carpet that was sticky, two spiders in my room, and the one blanket on the bed was shredded. Here's the coup de gras: my colleague opened the basket on her in-room coffee maker in the morning and discovered a USED condom in there! - Needless to say, we demanded a better hotel the next night, and if we hadn't arrived lost and after midnight the first night, we'd have run for our lives even sooner!
Teen Tries to Stab Parents Over Cell Phone {ParentDish}
Jan 29th 2009 7:47AM This is what happens in a country where parents are too lazy or too afraid of possible repercussions to spank their children. Discipline and ruling the roost has to start and be consistent from the time their little, by 16 it's too late, and only a matter of time until the police are bringing them home at night or you're picking them up at the police station. You know all those bratty kids who are allowed to run through restaurants, play with things in stores, scream and act like animals in public? Those are the kids of the next parents who are going to be chased with knives. That girl needs a good old fashioned walk to the woodshed. Daily.
MySpace Mom Finds Long Lost Son {ParentDish}
Jan 28th 2009 2:10PM This is one reason international adoptions are all the rage and couples are staying away from domestic adoptions. My husband and I are in the process of adopting from a foreign country, because it would be heartbreaking to accept, love, and raise a child as your own, only to have some other woman one day pop up and declare SHE is that person's "mom." When you give something away, it isn't yours any more.
