Photo of the day: Texas wildfire {Gadling}

Sep 7th 2011 8:51PM Sorry, but you guys elected a wing nut evangelical, he cut the budget for firefighting, claims FEMA is 'socialist' and wants to abolish it, and you don't pay any (income taxes) which, logically, could be used to pay for firefighters. So, now he is calling for help from other states that pay for firefighters, wants FEMA help (!) and still doesn't want to raise any taxes. The moral to the story is you get what you pay for and sadly, TX forgot to pay for firefighters and doesn't enforce common sense rules to rake up pine needles to remove fuel for fires. I feel your pain, but shake my head at your whinning.

TripAdvisor database hacked - email addresses compromised {Gadling}

Mar 24th 2011 1:38PM this is why I never store credit cards with e-stores. There security never seems up to the task.

Ryanair flight grounds 104 Belgian students after luggage fee fight {Gadling}

Feb 6th 2011 12:44PM I don't know, the nickel and diming to death of passengers by airlines has gotten to the breaking point. We spend $100 of each ticket for security "theater" and then they charge us $3 for a bottle of water on the plane (and use lavatories with hand washing water that is so bacteria laden it is a hazard to our health). If we had more 'luggage riots' the airlines might remember they are providing a service and begin to honor that tradition of treating customers well (aka take a look at southwest where everything just works)

Microsoft launches Windows Phone 7 in the U.S. today {Gadling}

Nov 8th 2010 4:12PM Good luck MSFT. The world saw what they did to monopolize the desktop so there is little chance that this will be much more successful than the zune.

Lady Gaga and Katy Perry take over Cebu Pacific in-flight safety demo {Gadling}

Oct 4th 2010 8:18PM These safety briefings are so dull, I really appreciate it when the FAs do something interesting! I do remember some especially creative FAs on Southwest airlines flights that did these briefings to music. I must say I REMEMBER that flight and do not think less of the FAs for their efforts. This is just another case of big business (unions) losing their sense of humor.

"Ground Zero Mosque" reality check {Gadling}

Aug 17th 2010 4:59PM There's a Shinto temple next to Pearl Harbor and a mosque in the Pentagon. These small minded people who want to stifle our fundamental right to freedom of religion are simply ignorant bigots (case in point is windbag rush who incorrectly referred to Hindos instead of Shinto as a religion)

Daily gear deals - free iPhone cases, free wireless data card and more {Gadling}

Mar 18th 2010 12:02PM The iphone charger does NOT work with the iphone 3Gs. Just so you know...

Hotels working on technology that could eliminate front desk check-in {Gadling}

Feb 19th 2010 11:03AM What ever happened to the concept of an Innkeeper? The big difference between good and bad hotels is service. I've been to a nice hotel in London that is staffed with mostly inexpensive and poorly trained German and Polish immigrants at the front desk and it was a terrible experience. The room was nice, but I didn't want to ask any questions or ask for any help because the language barrier was so high. Replacing this experience w/ robotic checkin may be good on some occasions, but please don't remove the human element.

Keep your home address out of your GPS unit {Gadling}

Nov 2nd 2009 11:41AM Well, everyone, by law, needs to keep their vehicle registration in their car and that has your home address on it anyway. I think if they wanted to find out where you live, they have all the info they need.

Travel annoyance #47: Paying for hotel Internet access has GOT to stop {Gadling}

Oct 29th 2009 11:18AM I have noticed the same thing. The cheaper the hotel the more likely it is to have free Internet. I HATE the hotels that charge for wireless because they are gouging me (like charging $3 for a coke in the room fridge that I will never, ever drink).
