What's wrong with the airlines' new $10 surcharge for travel on busy days? (UPDATED) {Gadling}

Sep 28th 2009 5:30PM I agree with Lauren. The miserable travel conditions around the holidays are a sufficient premium for people to pay.

Your point about the deceptive way in which airlines are presenting the markups is spot on, however. On my last trip, I booked on Delta for most of the legs of the trip, only to discover that American charged a lower fee for checked luggage on the last leg. So, in effect, this even takes away the consumer's ability to shop based on price because they are not required to disclose those fees at the time of booking. Hence, you don't know what the full price for your ticket is! You find the true price at the airport during check-in, and it's too late to change your mind at that point.

My own theory is that pretty soon the airlines will start to charge for air on flights. There will be oxygen optional flights pretty soon.

You can bring your own mask and oxygen tank, but you'll have to pay an extra $20 to check it in, of course.

The industry is in a pretty dismal state.

Jul 30th 2009 7:04PM This review was of great help to us when it was published. I would be thrilled if you were to review our iPhone app walking tours which are currently available in the App Store. The Berlin tour

People with passports are better looking {Gadling}

Apr 1st 2009 6:40PM On second thought, this has to be another April Fool's post.

People with passports are better looking {Gadling}

Apr 1st 2009 6:37PM Or perhaps that people who have traveled know better how to groom themselves.

It is for certain that those who tend to travel a lot give off a much better energy than those who are sedentary.

We tend to be thinner, too.

Daily deal - Samsung WEP210 Bluetooth headset for $8.60 {Gadling}

Mar 11th 2009 1:17PM I just checked Amazon. The deal is already gone, apparently, unless you meant 9 Pounds Sterling?

It is currently offered at $18, which is still pretty good.

Budget Travel: European Spring Break {Gadling}

Mar 11th 2009 1:16PM And, as it happens, we at walki-talki.com offer mp3 walking tours of most of the fantastic cities mentioned above, including Berlin, Munich and Prague.

Berlin is my favorite city and tour in our collection. At $9 a tour, you get a substantial savings over a guided tour without sacrificing quality.

U.S. Airlines hoping for a successful summer {Gadling}

Mar 11th 2009 1:12PM We at walki-talki.com hope that this is the breakout year for us and all other vendors of digital walking tours. I imagine we will be more appealing to tourists this year than ever before.

Then again, I could be wrong.

Heathrow annoying, Americans rude according to some social network {Gadling}

Feb 22nd 2009 9:47PM The results are totally in line with my own impressions, though I would definitely rank LAX as the second worst airport on the planet.

I never thought JFK was all that bad. Then again, it's been years since I've gone through JFK.

Myself and everyone I know has had luggage go missing or arrive late going through Heathrow. Whenever I plan my trip, I try to avoid Heathrow like the plague!

Amplified Journeys {Gadling}

Feb 16th 2009 3:05PM I gave it a test drive. Suggestion tend to be commercial, but it's a fascinating concept. I contacted them to see if they will include our mp3 walking tours in their system. Worth a shot.

This blog is always full of useful info!

Daily deal - Kensington 120W universal AC laptop adapter for $30 {Gadling}

Jan 27th 2009 1:12PM This is a fantastic idea. Many years ago, however, I bought the universal plug adaptors for my Mac (yes, it really pays to be a Mac users), and got into the habit of using the USB ports on my computer to charge everything else: batteries, mobile phone, iPods, etc.

The computer, the universal charger and the USB port on the computer are revolutionizing just about everything. It's just great.
