Rumormill: Best Buy to sell Aptera 2e? {Autoblog Green}
Sep 24th 2009 2:44PM I'm not so sure about that: After all, on my car everything that has required maintenance (shocks, air conditioning, window motor, alignment) are all things that would be on a EV.
SolarCity announces sun-powered electric vehicle charging network {Autoblog Green}
Sep 22nd 2009 3:35PM To me charging for EV seems to be the part of the equation that is destine to figure itself out; therefore, it seems to be better to focus on the parts that are more uncertain (such as the battery technology).
Environmentalists treat Jeremy Clarkson's driveway to a steaming pile of manure {Autoblog Green}
Sep 18th 2009 12:01PM I think he should retort by placing a burning piles of coal on the lawns of the supporters.
Also, did'nt Jeremy highly praise the compact Ford Fiesta?
How can we "refuel" electric vehicles today and tomorrow? {Autoblog Green}
Sep 17th 2009 5:46PM I think it's really not worth putting too much into charging this early in the game. The whole standard setting process will play itself out in the end. EVs/RE-EVs/PHEVs will demand it so the supply is assured.
What really matters is getting stuff that needs to be worked out is getting something that needs a plug on the market.
Washington debates if the Aptera 2e should be considered a car {Autoblog Green}
Sep 14th 2009 4:05PM I have an idea, why not just get rid of governmental safety requirements and just require that auto insurance on a no-fault basis cover the full cost of physical injuries that result from a car crash. That way the cost of driving a dangerous car is fully realized.
REPORT: Toyota braces for rare earth metal shortage {Autoblog Green}
Aug 31st 2009 8:24PM I think it's worth noting that judging by that article the metal primary seems to be used in the electric motor (a permanent magnet DC motor). There are other motor designs, such as the AC induction motor in the Tesla that don't require rare earth metals. (But do require DC-AC Inverter circuits).
Oil age celebrates 150th birthday, death urged {Autoblog Green}
Aug 31st 2009 4:48PM The author does not seem to lay out why efficiency is not enough. A 30%-50% increase in Mpg by 2025 seems more than possible. Mix in a little CNG and a few EVs and you have a 'good enough' solution.
What's more interesting however, is from my research there is some thought that the crude types of remaining oil reserves will result in MORE gasoline being refined and less other products(diesel, jet fuel, etc). Therefore, it's quite possible that oil production decreases, but gasoline production increases.
Tesla moving HQ, building powertrain plant in Palo Alto {Autoblog Green}
Aug 18th 2009 1:09PM Name one product you purchased from a silicone valley based company that you still use after more than five years of owning it?
Tesla moving HQ, building powertrain plant in Palo Alto {Autoblog Green}
Aug 18th 2009 12:48PM I think that despite the innovative nature of Tesla, their myopic desire to operate out of CA; the failure home of there founders and investors. After all if you're barely profitable what is the advantage of operating out of a area with massive cost of living, high taxes, and a silicon valley culture that embraces vaperware and rushing underdeveloped product to market? A car is not a new computer, for most a car is there first or second most expensive possession.
After all, dispute the technology involved the engineering culture required for a car (a highly capital intensive, low margin product with long life) is vastly different that the that of the area's other companies.
Honestly, this reminds me of reading about United Airlines moving there HQ into the Sears Tower. It seems a poor move for a company when the finances are great.
Seriously, what's wrong with other high-tech areas, such as Austin?
ZAP Electric gets up to $25 million (give or take) in fresh funding {Autoblog Green}
Aug 12th 2009 4:19PM And by anti-Tesla I think that means that Tesla's problems are in civil court; whereas Zap's will likely be in criminal court.
