Bare butt (flight) bargains in Britain {Gadling}

Mar 14th 2009 6:39AM So the airline will make its money back by setting up a lucrative amateur soft-core porn site? Sketchy ...

Turn plastic bottles into a boat: One guy's quest to sail the ocean {Gadling}

Mar 11th 2009 6:56PM Why recycle it after the voyage? It could do a lot better floating around, promoting environmentalism.

Hot or not? JetBlue decides for flight attendant {Gadling}

Jan 21st 2009 7:27AM It doesn't say whether she was dressed in a flight attendant uniform or normal clothes. Sure, airlines have a right to deny boarding, but come on. They didn't turn her away because her biz-cazh khakis weren't up to snuff.

So long, Northwest 747's {Gadling}

Jan 15th 2009 9:30AM I'm going to miss NW; I just flew to India last week with their partner KLM. They treated me very well, fed me three fairly tasty (by airline standards anyway), hot meals. But Delta is just another budget-cutting, soulless corporate entity. And I've never had problems with flight cancellations or baggage with NW, which I can't say about Delta.

The fall of the Khmer Rouge's 30th anniversary {Gadling}

Jan 9th 2009 9:16AM Yes, it's interesting to see the opposing tensions interact when dealing with a tragic past. In Russia, where I currently live, the push to fully reckon with Soviet atrocities is minuscule and has lost out to the trend to simply sweep everything under the rug.
I believe this was a huge mistake, at least in this case. With Putin in power, glorifying the Soviet Union seems to be the way to go, rather than learning from mistakes. But then again, the U.S. isn't very good at learning from our mistakes either ...

Bowermaster's Antarctica -- Grand Dider Channel, Antarctic Peninsula {Gadling}

Jan 8th 2009 12:21PM Good description, facts, and then the kicker -- green grass in Antarctica. Doesn't it upset you to see this rare, starkly beautiful place changing so fast? Get you angry at U.S. politicians and their inability to sign a basic pact on international environmental protections?
Or do you take a more resigned, pragmatic approach a la George Carlin; i.e. "I'm tired of f**king Earth Day," the planet will heal itself eventually, etc.
Or maybe even a Putin approach: Cold is counterproductive; we need to warm things up a bit? Although it's hard to envision a new breadbasket region in Antarctica. Maybe in another 100 years...
