Feb 17th 2011 8:33AM 100% correct! I was shocked at the author's dismissal of vacpack; been using vacpk for years, especially for meat and fish and it's great. Smoked salmon and dried meat and fruit last FOREVER. Like you said, buy a cheap presto sealer and get cheap results (I also use FoodSaver).

Jun 18th 2010 9:57PM Unless you give your car directly to a charity, you are supporting a scambag and his relatives. Cars4Causes is a franchise that does the same thing -- all relatives on the board, all overpaid, and the designated charity will get 20% or less of the proceeds. Ventura County DA tried and failed to shut these scambags down years ago, but they have lawyered their way into all the right tax loopholes. DO NOT GIVE YOUR CAR TO THESE "CHARITIES THAT GIVE TO CHARITIES"! Better yet, look at the financial info of ALL charities you think of supporting at either GuideStar or Charity Navigator online; if the ceo makes 200,000 and all the board members share his last name and they spend more than 20% on non-program expenses, THEN THEY ARE A SCAM!

Nov 20th 2009 8:11AM Old news, unfortunately. An outfit called Cars4Causes is a nationwide 'franchise' that gives a pitiful 20% of their donated cash for charities, the rest going to staff (mostly related to each other).
guidestar.org and charitynavigator.org have fact-based info on charities, including copies of their IRS filings that show how much execs are paid and how what percentage actually goes to 'programs', meaning how much REALLY goes to charitible purposes. Take a look before you donate your hardearned money!
