Nov 5th 2010 10:45PM Cruise ships are built outside of the US for financial reasons - nothing to do with Coast Guard safety regulations.
Disney was in negotiations for a 3rd & 4th ship in 2011, but put the deals on the back burner after 9/11.
The first to ships were built in Italy. You have to be able to BUILD the ship, build it properly, build it with proper technology, and priced accordingly.
Okay, so when was the last time a US shipbuilder built a cruise ship?

It would also have a negative impact upon resale value - dut to the eyesore factor.
