Recall Roundup: Coffee Makers, Exercise Equipment, Diet Supplements and More {WalletPop}

Mar 5th 2011 7:13PM This is great idea but we would not want to pay four to five times the price. Why this spread? The cost of labor. When a foreign worker is happy to get a few dollars a day our workers would want at least 15 dollars PER HOUR, if a manufacturer could find people who would sign on for that wage.

Savings Experiment: Treating the High Cost of Prescription Drugs {WalletPop}

Feb 17th 2011 9:53AM The only way I know is to ask your doctor very pointed questions, like, "why this particular drug?"; "what other drugs are there that will have the same effectiveness?"; "what similar drugs are there that have generic equivalent?" You will probably have to be very persistent.
Or you might ask your pharmacist the same qustions.
Good luck.

Is Magnesium The Key To Higher Fuel Economy? {AOL Autos - Translogic}

Jan 2nd 2011 11:20PM Rolls-Royce used cast magnesium casings on their Dart aero engine. It is a difficult metal even as an alloy to handle. As a casting it shrinks and is very susceptible to cracking. While it is quite strong it cannot take too much flexing before it cracks and welding magnesium is very difficult because of it tendency to burn as other readers have pointed out, and once it ignites it is impossible to extinguish. Similarly it is not an easy metal to machine, again because heat generated during cutting has to be carefully controlled. Surface protection to prevent corrosion is a must!! I believe if magnesium had been a viable choice for autos it would already be in use. It will be more costly to use magnesium than any other material currently in use today.

Greed returns to Wall Street -- Merrill Lynch CEO wants his bonus (update) {BloggingStocks}

Dec 8th 2008 3:05PM Give him his 1 million bonus. He has "earned" it?? but at $5.00 per year. This might give him an idea how "valuable" the common folks feel he has been.

Woman ends up in Sydney, Nova Scotia by mistake. She wanted Australia {Gadling}

Sep 25th 2008 12:15PM Several years ago I was returning to the US from England and was sitting beside a lady from Belgium who was visiting her son in the US.
Our flight was headed for Chicago and I was then coming on to Dallas. After a while she started to check her watch. When I asked if she had a problem, she said she had expected to have been met by her son.
It turned out she had wanted DULLES (in Washington), not DALLAS (in Texas). An explanation of the predicament to a flight attendant got the correct wheels moving.

NFL Reverses Course, Former Chad Johnson Can't Wear 'Ocho Cinco' on Jersey {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Sep 7th 2008 6:33PM He may be Ocho Cinco now and playing for Cincinnati, but what happens if and when he gets traded and his new team already has a for real Ocho Cinco and this number is not available to him?

Spirit Airlines to start charging for MIDDLE seats! {Gadling}

Jul 3rd 2008 6:08PM Two words -- greed and avarice.

American Airlines flight loses panel during takeoff, continues to fly to Paris {Gadling}

May 9th 2008 6:22PM So a panel fell off. The equipment in the photos is the aircraft air conditioning packs and valves. If I had to guess, some maintenence work was done on the air conditioning pack and the latches holding the panel in place were not correctly secured. Unfortunately pieces of all sizes and shapes fall off aircraft on a daily occasion. In this case no damage was done. However does anyone remember the one and only crash of Concorde? This was caused when a strip fell off a Continental aircraft in Paris and was swallowed by the Concorde engine. No one survived this one.

New United baggage policy: $25 for second checked bag {Gadling}

Apr 6th 2008 5:00PM An added item not mentioned in this article is that UA, as well as the $25 for bag#2 they have a charge for bag#1.
If it exceeds 50 pounds weight, the charge is $25. If it weighs 50 to 75 pounds this will cost $50 and over 75 pounds it is $100.
And I would guess if bag#2 exceeds 50 pounds this same charge will also apply.
And certainly at DFW UA has a lot of people transferring to international destinations in India and Africa and it is heart breaking to see families with 6, 7 or even 10 very large suitcases full of items for their relatives. In some cases they have had to abandon their trips because it is too expensive for them to take all their goodies.

In-Flight Cell Phone Calls Now Allowed On Emirates {Switched}

Mar 24th 2008 1:28PM Use of cell phones on aircraft is not a good idea. Aircraft safety is not an issue but the obnoxiousness of a lot of cell users most certainly is. If an airline feels it has to appease a small segment of their passengers by allowing cells, then group these people together. When smoking was allowed on flights, just before it was banned the back three or four rows of seats in Economy (aka Stowage)were designated "Smoking" Whereas the choice was Smoking? or None?, change this to Cell? or None? Maybe they will all self destruct if they have to listen to each other prattle for 5 or six hours. We can only hope!!
