Mar 3rd 2012 7:18AM Not sure that you can evict someone that is not the actual tenant (since nonresident son can evict, he must be the owner, and [here I am assuming, since more information is out than before, but still not all] Mom is tenant, with second son not being formally on whatever documents exist).
Turns out, apparently, like so much else, answers are never simple, situations are more complex than one reads in the newspapers (or on the ’Net).
From what little I know, the best solution might be a visiting nurse, or some sort of daily helper, who could assist Mom. The resident son might object, of couse, adding just more complexity.
I wish all three well; tough situation for everyone.

Jan 23rd 2012 3:51PM Hear, hear! “Now that we are essentially the owners?” NO, dammit, this woman is the rightful owner; even if HUD paid off some predatory bank to prevent an injustice, that gives the agency NO right to decide that the home is unsafe, when she has been living there. Yes, I would like to see her living in comfort; yes, I would be perfectly all right with HUD taking on the job of fixing up the home. NO WAY am I O.K. with them evicting her just as the bank was doing.

The bedrooms, a separate controlled area, cannot use the features of the new programmable thermostat because of the age of our heating system, or so my parents tell me. This certainly has good design, ability to set it from afar may be a good idea, but not until ours is broken. . . .

Hard to know if you are not really in the situation, and if I was having trouble making ends meet I would at least think about keeping part of it, but I would either contact the previous owner, give it to charity, or keep it—the “authorities” have no legitimate interest in it, IMHO.

Jul 5th 2011 11:27PM Hear, hear! You are so right; she gained a lot of respect by keeping her own counsel, taking care of her kids, and not being drawn into the drama. Now she is offering to take care of children not her own, adopting a newborn (and waiting to do so until after custody was settled; understandable from a practical point of view, but how might it have affected the custody judge’s decision if known? the timing could be seen as calculating/manipulative). And supporting Brooke, the druggie? What is up with that? Are we seeing some bitterness that we did not suspect? That cannot help her daughters any.

Jun 15th 2011 4:56AM I wasnt able (at least not easily able) to find a way to comment on the PRoject Phoenix article, so I am posting this here. I am not interested in integrating my electronic communications methodsI dont want AOL on my cell phone, I dont want to text to AOL contacts, etc., etc. I am asking for reassurance that I will not be forcibly upgraded away from my simple E-mail.

Jun 10th 2011 12:09AM The curtains are a disaster; cheap and uninspired. The upholstered chairs are not much better; the cushions were a much better idea, IMHO. Potholders and towels? O.K. Tabletop was an improvement. All in all, no decorator needed.
