Despite Leaky Defense, LSU Wins in Washington 31-23 {Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog}
Sep 8th 2009 1:05AM Yeah, maybe "sleep depravation" was the wrong term to use. Maybe he should have said it was passed their bedtime. The game didn't start until 9:30pm central time (which is the time zone the LSU players are coming from) and didn't end until 12:30am central time. By the end of the game, it was clear that the LSU players just wanted to lay down and go to sleep. It is one thing to still be awake at 12:30am, but to be expected to still be playing full on football at 12:30am when your body isn't used to, is crazy. I don't understand why this wasn't a day game or at least a game that was a little earlier in the day.
Federal Bill Says Silent Cars a Threat to Pedestrians {Switched.com}
Apr 25th 2009 2:45PM I live in a big city & am not blind. But I think it is an excellent idea. You don't have to be blind to nearly get hit by "silent cars". There are a ton of crosswalks just within a few blocks of my house where you can't see if any cars are coming without starting to step out into the road or at least sticking your head out into the lane of traffic. Because of parallel parking on both sides of the street, cars block your view (and any moving car's view of pedestrians). The only way I can know if it is safe to even think about crossing is to listen for the cars coming. But if you can't hear them, you get the crap scared out of you when you peek your head out & a car is barreling towards you. Or the driver gets startled by someone sticking their head out or starting to step out in front of them, because they couldn't hear the car coming. There are so many stop signs around here that drivers don't come to complete stops at each stop sign & even if they do stop, it is usually in the middle of the crosswalk, so you can't count on the cars actually stopping.
If you look at who the two senators are that are proposing this, you will see that they represent states with large urban areas, thus they will be familiar with how big of an issue this is for everyone, not just the visually impaired.
This isn't just an issue about a few blind people in the suburbs not being able to hear some cars. This is an issue about every single pedestrian in all of the larger cities in the country, as well. This is about the children in those cities walking home from school everyday. We have enough pedestrians & bicyclists hit by cars everyday in my city, we don't need to make that number skyrocket, just because we can't hear the two tons chunks of metal barreling down the street anymore.
March Madness: John McCain Picks Butler over LSU {Politics Daily}

Brush & Rinse Magical Toothbrush Coming Soon for $1.18 {Switched.com}
Mar 12th 2009 7:44PM This is a ridiculous product. Can people seriously not bend the extra two inches it would take to get the water directly out of the faucet? I can't imagine paying $2, much less $5 or $1,750 for a cheap looking toothbrush with a hole in the back of it.
Vikings Just a Little Short of a Sellout for Wild Card Weekend Against Eagles {Fanhouse NFL Blog}
Dec 30th 2008 2:15AM Don't worry. The Eagles fans will take care of the 20,000 tickets left over in a jiffy.
Gadling's 10 days of gadget giveaways - day 5 - Otterbox iPod or Blackberry case {Gadling}
Nov 21st 2008 4:39PM My mom bought a new car and had the whole family over to check it out (including my 2 year old niece and 4 year old nephew). All of the adults were talking outside of the car, while the kids climbed around inside it. When it came time to take a ride in the car, we wanted to listen to a cd. We attempted to get the cd in several times, but the cd player just wouldn't accept it. She eventually brought it to the dealership a few days later, so they could try to find out what the problem was. Turns out there was about $1.00 worth of coins stuffed in there. Darn kids.
Where Have All the Male Teachers Gone? {News Bloggers}
Aug 12th 2008 5:55PM I think that is such a sad statement for being in 2008. I have been a nanny for four years. The little boy that I take care of went to preschool part time for most of those four years. He was lucky to be at a place where at least 30%-40% of the teachers and caregivers were male. I was able to witness what a good influence those men were on the boys and girls at the school. It helped the boys learn that it was ok for a male to be gentle, compassionate, caring, and accepting of all people. And it helped the girls be able to interact more comfortably with males, instead of fearing them. It would be a shame for any male to be swayed from wanting to be a teacher, just because some people are foolish enough to be distrustful of an entire gender. What does that say about how they feel about their husbands, sons, & all other male friends & acquaintances?
Espressogate Follow-Up {News Bloggers}
Jul 23rd 2008 6:58PM This might be a stupid question, but why would anyone have a policy against putting ice in an espresso? It is one thing to just not waste space and leave it off your menu, but why would you not allow it? It is summer. It is hot outside. I don't drink coffee, but if I did, I would understandably prefer something cold over something hot. It isn't as if the man was asking for something that would have caused a chemical reaction and caused the coffee shop to explode. He just wanted some ice in his coffee. I can understand chastising the customer for having a bad attitude against the barista and being a dick in general, but there should have never been an issue in the first place. I can't imagine that the customer was the first person that walked into the coffee shop and wanted ice in their coffee. If I had been the person at the cash register, my first suggestion to the customer would have been that while we don't offer it iced, that he could purchase the hot version and also purchase a cup of ice. I mean seriously, they have a policy??? How is that even the kind of issue that you even need to make a policy over? Do they have a problem with people wanting something cold to drink, but to also get a coffee fix at the same time? That is just so bizarre. While I don't condone the customer's behavior, I can understand how exasperating that must have been for him to try to wrap his head around why he was being told that putting ice in coffee was "against their policy".
McCain's Optional Flat Tax {Politics Daily}
Apr 20th 2008 1:28PM That might work for some people, but for people who are low income, that would be impossible. I am self-employed and make $17,400 a year. With the 19% tax that would mean that I would have to pay $3,306 per year in taxes for the first two years and $2,958 per year after that. As it is, after all of my deductions and credits, I usually end up paying around $2,000. I can just barely break even every year after paying my bills and taxes. I can't even afford to buy new clothes as it is. There is no way that I could continue to support myself if I had to give the government even more of my money.
Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden? {Gadling}
Feb 25th 2008 11:17PM The last scene when he was talking to the woman about moisturizer and then randomly asks where Osama is, made me fall out of my chair laughing. It definitely looks like an interesting movie, to say the least. Obviously, we know that he doesn't succeed in finding Osama, but it looks as though the journey that he takes to try to find him will be entertaining and educational.
