Photo of the Day (10.24.09) {Gadling}

Oct 26th 2009 2:33PM Sorry, no. I live in Hawaii, like you, but I'm a professional landscape photographer.

Frankly, it's a very poor photograph, one that should have been deleted as soon as it was taken, much less shared here.

We need to get out more: National Geographic picks the World's Greatest Scenic Routes {Autoblog}

Aug 21st 2009 9:08PM The Great Ocean Road is a great drive, but it is no more difficult than driving California Hwy 1 south of Monterey (nor as long).

Aug 20th 2009 5:02PM These things have been around for years (get an old B&H catalog) .... nothing new here.

Gadling gear review - Heys xCase - world's lightest carry-on luggage {Gadling}

Aug 18th 2009 5:40PM "it is seriously light" ... not when your carry-on is limited to 7kg (as on a number of non-US airlines).

Through the Gadling Lens: The 7 most common questions from new photographers {Gadling}

Jul 16th 2009 1:15PM You really need to get your terms correct. Grain is an artifact of FILM, and has absolutely nothing to do with ISO - grain is determined by the size of silver halide in an emulsion, and can vary based upon the developer used. Digital has NOISE. They are not the same.

Through the Gadling Lens: the most overrated photography-related items take on a trip {Gadling}

Apr 23rd 2009 1:18PM A good tripod is always worth taking, unless you plan on only being out in the heart of the day. If you find the weight to be an issue, a good carbon fiber tripod is readily available (although not cheap).

One of the biggest misconceptions I find amongst you digital photographers is this idea of cranking up the ISO. Raising the ISO increase noise, noise reduction reduces sharpness - especially for those who use cheaper consumer DSLRs like the Nikon D200/D300, etc. Try seeing ISO like a film photographer sometime, and you might find more creative ways of handling low light situations.

Product review - Microsoft Zune AV kit {Gadling}

Apr 14th 2009 1:04PM I love my Zune 120, I wouldn't trade it for anything in Apple's line. With the new Zune HD coming soon, I guess I'll be getting another (my third).

Through the Gadling Lens: what's in my day pack? {Gadling}

Apr 10th 2009 3:47PM I generally carry a Nikon F6 and a Nikkor 24-120 zoom and a half dozen rolls of Fuji Velvia 100. I have a D200, but I only use it once every three or four months or so - just don't like the image quality.

2008 Airline Quality Report says Hawaiian is nation's best carrier {Gadling}

Apr 7th 2009 9:06PM Most of Hawaiian's flights are short, less than 40 minutes. However, when I fly to Sydney from here, I choose Hawaiian over Qantas, for a number of reasons; like more liberal carry-on luggage - 25 lbs for Hawaiian, versus 15 for Qantas, for example.
