Help! I've been bumped! {Gadling}

Jan 15th 2009 11:25AM Is it possible to refuse to be bumped if you get picked out? Only when we travel to the US we usually take two or three flights to get where we're going and getting bumped would make us miss the second and third flights so we'd be in a right mess. Do they take this into account when choosing who to bump?

Galley Gossip: A question about moving from coach to first class when there are open seats {Gadling}

I take it from the above comment that you were expecting or hoping to be able to take up some of your seatmate's seat had they not "insisted" on having the armrest down?

I'm sorry you were so uncomfortable, but really you helped me make my point. If I pay for a whole seat, that's what I would like to be able to use.

If my neck and back problems caused me to take up more than one seat then I would pay for another, rather than expect to encroach on someone else.

One thing I've learnt from all these helpful comments is that I will always insist on the armrest being down, that way I will be able to preserve at least the bottom half of my seat!

Galley Gossip: A question about moving from coach to first class when there are open seats {Gadling}

Nov 13th 2008 11:09AM Heather, hank you for taking the time to write this blog, I really enjoy it and have learnt a lot.

Following on from Melissa's problem, what should a passenger do when their seatmate is taking up some of their space? I'm talking about the really obese types who can only fit in by leaving the arm rest up and taking some of the next seat.

I always joke that if that happens to me then you'll see it on the news. But seriously, I have back and neck problems and have to sit straight. I've seen people sitting skewed in their seats due to an obese seatmate, and I would be crippled with pain sitting that way for even a short time, never mind a long flight.

My argument would be I've paid for a whole seat, not 3/4 or 1/2 of one.

We always book well in advance and try and get where it's just two seats together but sometimes it's unavoidable to sit next to someone you don't know.

Thanks
