Should Peanuts Be Banned on Planes? {AOL Travel News}
Jun 14th 2010 3:42PM It isn't just about banning peanuts. Three perspectives:
First, are we on a slippery slope here? Ban peanuts, than all nuts, then eggs, wheat gluten, then honey, etc. Then you have the secondary substances like (mentioned above) pet hair. Find out if there really is a problem (are people having reactions to peanuts (eggs, honey) on flights). If not, let it be.
Second: When did we come to expect that the government and businessess would make sure every environement was perfectly safe for everyone? I get it that a plane is a special case because you can't get off and a medial team can't get on board during the flight. Still, I would like to know what other public places ban peanuts and how it is working. Are peanuts banned from elevators and subways? If there is a peanut oil spill on aisle five of the grocery store, is that handled as an emergency? Unlike a corn oil spill?
Third: There are a million potential emergencies that can occur on a plane. Some of which can be triggered by the flight experience. Specifically, I am thinking about heart attacks. Let's face it, flying can be ridiculously stressfull today. If the airlines are trying to reduce the risk of a life threatening, medical emergency in-flight, shouldn't they also be working on ways to make the boarding/flight less stressful to prevent panic attacks/heart attacks/strokes, etc?
Woman goes crazy on United flight, is restrained with duct tape {Gadling}
Nov 6th 2008 2:19PM In any tool kit you only need two items: Duct tape and WD40. If something moves and it shouldn't, use duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD40. Makes life simpler now doesn't it.
