Review: 2011 Jaguar XKR Convertible {Autoblog}
Mar 17th 2011 12:22PM It's almost worth it on looks alone. Alas, many times prospective wives give the same impression....and the same result. Still, one can enjoy the ride.
China to drop joint venture rule for foreign automakers? {Autoblog}
Nov 12th 2010 1:26PM If the multinationals think that they can better protect their technology by operating as singular entities in China, well, they just don't know the Chinese very well. Whatever goes into or out of China is compromised. Perhaps it is that the Chinese have hit the wall on squeezing technology out of the joint ventures as the manufacturers simply won't give away their best technology. Using the ruse of allowing "independent" operations plays straight into their hands. Speaking as one who has had many business dealings with the Chinese over the past 20+ years in several industrial concerns, if you think you can trust them to practice anything remotely like normal business conduct (minimal though that may sometimes be, contract or no contract), then you're a fool. Their mission is to steal you blind of your intellectual property and move on to the next greater fool. It's instructive to note their latest feignt relative to electric cars that manufacturers setting up in China to produce them must, repeat must, share their technologies with the Chinese government. That was less than two months ago. And the use of rare earth minerals as a weapon dovetails very neatly with the electric car policy as well. Caveat venditor.
NHTSA: Eight percent of Americans admit to driving drunk in past year {Autoblog}
Aug 26th 2010 1:55PM This headline and the stats that back it up don't match. Driving after drinking a beer or two, in the average sized person, does not constitute "drunk" unless there is some further definition in the data. Drinking and driving is indeed a bad idea but this kind of hyperbole and faulty statistical analysis is ridiculous "journalism".
2010 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Best of Show: 1933 Delage D8S De Villars Roadster {Autoblog}
Aug 16th 2010 1:19AM My apologies Drew, I was having a little fun at your expense. My bad. I know how impossible it can be. I've been there four times myself and unless you get your elbows out up near the stage, well, you just don't get to where you want to be. And stepping on all the swells' picnic blankets right there in front is out of the question too. I'm old enough to remember when it wasn't the HUGE crowd scene that it has become although there were always enough people for it to be crowded, when your hero VIP's actually wore name tags on their coats and you could talk to them just like to any other car guy. It's changed over the years and I'm not sure for the better but that's the nature of things. Thanks for being out there to take the pictures for us.

Nissan to halt NA output of Altima, Sentra on Hitachi part supply delays? {Autoblog}
Jul 14th 2010 3:54PM I agree. Low cost by way of a contract to perform on an interrupt basis probably. Hitachi may have gotten a lower price (and, therefore, Nissan) by not putting enough teeth in the terms and conditions as to "must deliver or pay penalties". One can almost hear the chip supplier saying, "no need to worry, we make these things by the millions, there'll be no possibility of interruption and we can offer you a lower price". Prolly saved two bucks a chip or some such nonsense.

Lockheed Martin designer suggests new direction for next Lamborghini {Autoblog}
Jun 8th 2010 11:10AM When you consider that the current series (maxed out in the Reventon) was "informed" by the F117 (not the F22) this effort builds on the style of the last generation in a way that most car companies try to do. I like it even though it has some problems. But look at the current series. Dramatic, yes. Ugly, yes. I'm with you, it works.
A sneak peek at Motor Trend Classic {Autoblog}
Jun 4th 2010 9:45PM They lost me last year when they were basically threatening me via the mail that I "had" to renew. They must have been in a desperate period. Hell will freeze over before I ever buy another MT.
