Galley Gossip: Hottest trend on the airplane since the mile high club {Gadling}

Apr 2nd 2009 3:34PM As a flight attendant, I'm amazed at how many people come to the back before take-off to use the lav! Instead of using the toilets in the airport which are thoroughly cleaned many times over than the airplane lav, people get on and use them. Haven't you just been out sitting in the terminal for an hour? It makes boarding that much more of a hassle with people lining up for the lav before we've even taken off!

Galley Gossip: Lindsay Lohan throws a fit when she's denied a first class seat! {Gadling}

Feb 6th 2009 4:51PM I just had Keri Walsh on a flight recently. She is one half of the women's volleyball gold medal team. I wouldn't have recognized her at all but another flight attendant I was working with did right away. She plopped down, covered her face with her hat and slept the entire flight. She was in coach.

When the agent came onboard to give me the paperwork for the flight I asked him why he didn't upgrade her. Apparently she hadn't asked to, and he didn't feel it was his obligation to do it. Instead he put company stand-by's in First. I was actually impressed as I am not gaga over celebrities at all. I treat all my passengers the same. Celebrity or not.

Feb 6th 2009 4:42PM Just so you know, you can buy a bottle of water or other beverage once you pass through security. Always be prepared. Don't count on the airlines for your needs.

Jan 31st 2009 11:04PM Are you serious?

I just stated I was LAUGHING over all your comments and rantings. I find it all humerous. I have people like you on every single one of my flights every trip I fly. I choose to find the humor in such ignorance.

Jan 30th 2009 11:59PM As a current working flight attendant for a major US airline, I am laughing at everyone's ignorant and obnoxious comments. Are you all feeling better about yourselves, putting us "glorified sky waitresses" in our place? C'mon seriously.

There ARE some nasty, bitter flight attendants out there. And you know what? I don't enjoy flying with them either. But sometimes I don't have a choice, you don't have a choice. Just move on.

And as far as all we do is schlep out drinks? Tell that to Ms. 11C on my last flight who passed out cold, her eyes rolling back into her head. Who was the first one to respond to her, give her oxygen, and make sure she was ok for the remainder of the 4 hour flight? Yep, your's truly. That could have been your mother, grandmother, daughter. What if I had told her that, sorry, I'm just on board to serve drinks...

Whoever suggested going and getting $1 bills for $100 in change, that's awesome! I just did a Vegas trip last week and a guy wanted to buy 1 drink ($6) w/ a, you guessed it, $100 bill. You betcha we worked that aisle to get the change!

Thanks again Heather for a great post! You keep on telling it like it is.

Jan 30th 2009 11:41PM It's called cut-backs. They only give us limited supplies on the airplane. Really limited supplies. Sometimes the supplies they give us are to last for 2-3 flights that day.

Galley Gossip: A question about being a mother and a flight attendant {Gadling}

Jan 21st 2009 10:35PM Great advice Heather! I thought about quiting so many times once I had my two boys but I'm so glad I haven't. I work weekends but also drop trips if I need to. My Hubs has great flexibility with his job so we are able to handle watching the kids between the two of us.

I would tell any F/A who is thinking of quiting because of kids to try and take any leaves or extend your maternity leave if possible. If you are eligible for FMLA, investigate that. I ended up stretching my leave to 4 years....with all my benefits intact the entire time! If I had wanted to get a 2nd job to supplement income I could have. Luckily it worked out financially for me to stay at home.

While it's hard to be away from my kids, I've found that I now bid for nice layovers (more than 15 hours). So I can relax and have some "ME" time. And sometimes if I just don't want to be away I bid 1-day trips. That's the beauty of our job...there are all kinds of trips to choose from.

Thanks for another great post!

Galley Gossip: Bids are out! (my schedule, a little airline lingo, and a flight attendant poll) {Gadling}

Oct 30th 2008 4:46PM I wish we had trip traders at my airline! That way I wouldn't have to be glued to my computer on my days off at the end/beginning of the month!
