Through the Gadling Lens: shooting inside {Gadling}

Jan 20th 2009 12:02PM One thing that we did was invest in a really fast fixed lens - a 50mm 1.4. We almost never have to use the flash with that one, and typically don't have to crank the ISO up, either, so we can get some really crisp shots with it. The lack of zoom can be frustrating sometimes (I find that it ends up being too close for some inside shots), but all in all it's been a really solid lens for us and I think we have yet to shoot with it with the flash on!

Refunds from an airline? Say it ain't so {Gadling}

Dec 29th 2008 9:01AM With Southwest, I just tried this earlier in the month and found that they will only refund your credit card if you request it within 24 hours of booking the previous flight. After that, they just give you a SW credit if the price drops, not a cash refund on your card. But no change fees either way.

Meet Halfway With a.placebetween.us {Gadling}

Nov 7th 2008 10:25AM I've tried all of these sites and run into the same problem with each of them - they give you the "as the crow flies" midpoint and not the actual midpoint of the route you'd take. Obviously if I am trying to meet up with someone I'm going to drive the quickest route possible (i.e., interstate) and not go over a mountain on backroads out of the way to get to the exact middle. I know you can often drag the midpoint, but I wish they would just calculate the driving directions between the two points first, then come up with the midpoint of that route!

Undiscovered New York: Up the Hudson River Valley {Gadling}

Nov 6th 2008 11:55AM There are also many great wineries in this area. The Shawangunk Wine Trail (http://www.shawangunkwinetrail.com/) and the Dutchess Wine Trail (http://www.dutchesswinetrail.com/) have about 12-15 vineyards between them.

Through the Gadling Lens: choosing the right lens {Gadling}

Nov 4th 2008 1:56PM Great post! We just got a Canon SLR for our upcoming trip to Iceland. My husband had a film SLR and a lot of experience, but I am a complete novice. This post and the pictures that illustrated it were very helpful! (And your little girl is adorable!)

November Iceland roadtrip: "You're an idiot" {Gadling}

Oct 29th 2008 3:24PM We're not even bothering with a car hire or the Ring Road next month- I think there will be enough to keep us busy in Reykjavik and we're planning a couple of day tours from the city, so we won't have to drive but can still see some of the interior.

Iceland on the cheap: Am I the worst person in the world? {Gadling}

Oct 17th 2008 9:52PM Great pictures! I'm bummed that we're probably going to miss out on the Puffins.

Iceland on the cheap: Am I the worst person in the world? {Gadling}

Oct 17th 2008 9:47PM We're at the Klopp. :-)
Have not looked into car rentals yet and might just do tours if we find ones that look flexible so we can avoid renting. I think we will probably play it by ear and maybe book tours the day before from our hotel. We've booked for 6 nights in Reykjavik, so we'll use that as our base and go from there. Getting excited!

Iceland on the cheap: Am I the worst person in the world? {Gadling}

Oct 17th 2008 10:43AM Jerry, I think we just booked the exact same flights! We're going Nov. 22-29. There are some great hotel deals right now - the whole week is costing us $222, or about $35 a night for a 3-star in the middle of the city. I'm pretty excited. Hopefully things will stabilize a bit in the next few weeks - but from message boards I have been reading, a lot of the drama (gas, grocery shortages, etc.) is greatly exaggerated in the media.
