Galley Gossip: Laviators - the best of the best contest! {Gadling}
Oct 23rd 2009 8:37PM Nice work Heather...I knew it would be a hit as soon as you announced it. I think I'll find a wide open flight to non-rev on and dress up in a funny outfit and spend a ridiculous amount of time in the lav...
Hero pilot who landed on Hudson turning into a real jerk {Gadling}
Apr 1st 2009 8:55AM Yeah, doesn't suprise me. Becoming a hero does wacked out stuff to a person. What a pompous pilot.
April fools, Sully!
Plane crashes and traffic accidents {Gadling}
Feb 19th 2009 10:22PM I've gotten notifications via email six times on this comment now, so I suppose I need to clarify.
Aimee, I do agree with what you have said. I do think you misread the intent of my comment about US Airways 1549 from my blog. I have read several news stories that have put a very strange spin on the story, which have made it seem that any other pilot, save Sully, would have caused a disastrous crash. This is not so. I know that my husband has received excellent safety training through his airline. He is nowhere near as experienced as Sully, but I have faith that MANY pilots in commercial aviation would have had the capacity to land the plane safely. The emergency procedures were expertly exectued, and I do believe God's hand was active in the sucessful splash landing.
Does this make sense? I'm absolutely not anti-miracle, but I think credit does need to go overall to pilots who have safety procedures and flows so ingrained in their muscle memory that they would have the capacity to save lives. My husband was involved in a birdstrike that nearly required a belly landing, but he and the captain followed the safety requirements and successfully landed with no injury. Unfortunately, Colgan's flight resulted in the worst case scenario...but I have faith that the pilots and crew members who perished were on top of their game - following safety procedures a best they could in an impossible situation.
Plane crashes and traffic accidents {Gadling}
Feb 13th 2009 9:18AM I too woke up to the sad news of Colgan 3407. This crash really hit home for me because Buffalo International is an airport my husband regularly flies to, in a plane of similar capacity. My heart goes out to the families of the crashes. I too posted about the accident this morning:

Budget Travel: Detroit {Gadling}
Jan 31st 2009 10:28AM I do find it interesting that you mentioned the people there. I just left living in the Detroit area after 11 months of rude, profane, vulgar, standoffish treatment. It's a tough economy, high unemployment, horrible winter weather, and I think it's worn hard on the whole region. The only people that I ever felt that I could relate to, or were not threatened or ignored by, were people from out of state who were there for work or education. I typically make friends and good acquaintances within moments, but this west-coast girl could not crack the frozen, unfriendly barrier on the majority of strangers she spoke to. Some even pretended to not speak English (which is funny because I would hear them talk before I asked a question)
Detroit's saving grace for me, however, is the DTW airport. My husband flies for an airline with a hub in DTW, and the McNamara Terminal is spacious, clean, efficient, and generally a pleasant experience. Perfect for going to all the places I'd rather be.
Activist calls for Utah boycott after California passes Prop 8 {Gadling}
Nov 17th 2008 8:25PM What a bizzare idea. I'm LDS, and I have family in Utah, but I think the finger of blame is being pointed erroneously. I guess a boycott on Utah travel would make it easier to fly standby to visit my family.

Oct 14th 2008 10:20PM It is beautiful in Ann Arbor right now! I work at U of M Hospital and have an amazing view of all the changing trees from my office window. I blogged about it today too. http://www.cuteculturechick.com/2008/10/my-work-window.html
