Can You Buy Cheap and Look Like a Lavish Gift-Giver? -- Savings Experiment {WalletPop}

Dec 19th 2009 1:25AM Well, unfortunately for the economy my friends and family -- well we've decided not to give gifts this year. We are holding a huge potluck brunch instead. And you know what? All of us have agreed it is a total relief not to give gifts. We value and love each other and a gift or no gift doesn't change that. We are all looking forward to the potluck for the food (we have assigned different countries to each person and they have to choose a dish, some music, and decor for it) and we have a few games chosen to fit the season. One of them is to write something nice about each person. We will have plain brown paper bags at the potluck along with a ton of leftover or unused scrapbooking materials--each person will make a bag for a name they have drawn. The nice sayings will go in there. We are doing activities like this--to show how much we value each other and our friendships. Much better than a $1 or $60 candle.

Crocs now selling heels! {Stylelist (Main)}

Jun 10th 2008 10:25AM Sorry Kyle Hepp--but I love these. They certainly look more comfortable than my Manolo Blahniks. I've paid a lot for designer shoes that I wear to work. What am I paying for? A shoe that is uncomfortable, falls apart easily, and that gets ruined if I step in snow or rain or on gravel. These are great for jeans, casual wear etc. Go Crocs.

The Continuing Saga of Paris' Jail Sentence {The Cooler}

Jun 9th 2007 7:16AM Although I do think the sentence was a little harsh based on what most people get for similar offenses in Los Angeles, I'm glad that the judge cracked down. Page 6 is reporting Jesse Metcalf, straight out of rehab, is drinking and partying already. In Touch is reporting Lindsay Lohan is not taking her rehab seriously.
What is it going to take for these stars who feel they can do anything and get away with it to face responsibility for their actions? I don't think I'm alone in this country of ours to be totally disgusted by young Hollywood (and some old Hollywood).
One Paris fan likened her to Princess Diana. Oh Puh-leez. Princess Diana didn't drink and drive, do drugs and drive, and among her splashes in the tabloids she did serious charity work. And a lot of it.
What has Paris ever done except be a parasite. Personally, in my opinion based on pictures--I think she is detoxing from drugs in prison. I think that iss why it wasn't introduced in court because then all the journalists would know and it would immediately be reported.
I find it hard to be sympathetic to a 26 year old woman who heads a multi-million dollar enterprise (pimping herself) who cries out for her mom. When and at what age does she grow up!

We're So Over the Brangelina Bashing {The Cooler}

May 26th 2007 8:53AM You know it is amazing to many of us that Angelina inspires such hate. You defend Laura Dern--yet she married a man she took away from a marriage where I believe children were involved. Rumors were circulating quietly thru Hollywood that Jen and Brad's relationship was on the rocks--two years after they were married and that was long before he met Angie. Both of them made cryptic comments about love not being forever. Folks who ran into them at parties said they came together, left together and inbetween they were usually on separate sides of the room saying nothing to one another. Jen was always making little snide comments about Brad and his taste in furniture. She doesn't like to fly and he loved to explore the world. She didn't like motorcycles or fast cars and he loves them. He loves modern furniture, art and architecture and she hated them. He wanted children, she said she did, but was always signing up for more movies.
It isn't hard to figure out that this marriage was not made to last. So he fell for Angie, so what. The list of Hollywood/star marriages that have broken up because one spouse cheated is huge with huge names as well as little names--many with kids unlike Brad and Jen. Elizabeth tAylor, Elvis Presley, John Lennon, Tom Cruise (who dumped Nicole to move in wiht Penelope--Aniston should have taken a page from the dignity Nicole had during the break up). Laura Dern and Ben, Britney Spears took K-Fed away from a relationship where a baby was on the way, Tori Spelling and Dean whatshisname. Reese Witherspoon is going out wiht Jake G even tho she is still married to Ryan P (who cheated on her). These are big names and just a fraction of the huge population of folks who have cheated.
Get over it. Angie and Brad seem very happy. And if that passionate kiss in the car after Cannes is any indication--they will be for a long time.

What Are They Looking At? {The Cooler}

May 21st 2007 4:56PM I think they look great also! Don't care for Brad's hair, but the pictures of them on the red carpet show a loving couple. Especially love the ones with Marianne Pearl and her son Adam! Wonderful couple!

IMUS: PIMPS UP HOS DOWN {Blackvoices Main}

Apr 12th 2007 6:03PM Reecie--you and the first poster are right, being Black is exhausting. BUT when are we going to respect ourselves? As another poster pointed out--we have Wendy Williams calling Angelina Jolie's child a nigarette. We have rappers calling our women ho's and worse. We have rappers and actors and the like denigrating us. Who needs Imus when we are our own worst enemy? Until we stand up and are truly proud of our culture, our heritage and who we are--we are going to continue to be exhausted! Until we stand up and say no more to our own people who rap about drugs, ho's, beating up women etc., we will continue to perpetuate all of this disrespect. Whites buy our music, see our films, watch our comedians. They see our own dishing it out and tearing us down...and they figure it is no big deal to say some of the same words. We need to respect ourselves and demand, respectfully, respect from our writers, our artists, our own people.
