Gadling gear review - CoPilot Live for Android phones {Gadling}

Sep 23rd 2009 11:23AM I tried CoPilot Live and found it to be pretty but unusable. Point-to-point directions were usually less than optimal or even just plain wrong, and addresses were either missing or in the wrong place.

For example, my house address wasn't in the database even though the house has been there for more than 12 years. My neighbor's address was available, but CoPilot said that his house was on the opposite side of the neighborhood (I can assure you that it isn't). Directions through the city would often get confused and take me on a circuitous route and directions to my friend's house in a much more rural area tried to have me turn where there was nothing but trees for two miles in either direction.

Orlando, Florida isn't the biggest city in the world, but with more than a million people in the greater area, it's hardly a remote destination. One would expect the mapping data to be fairly accurate.

As a footnote, when I brought up the inaccuracies to ALK (the makers of CoPilot), they never responded. They were very helpful in trying to get it to install on the phone, but beyond that I haven't heard a peep from them, so basically they took my money for a defective product.

HTC Magic first eyes-on! {Engadget}

Feb 17th 2009 8:03AM Those buttons that are in the presentation, but not the "eyes-on" are actually required by the Android OS spec. I suppose that they might eventually support soft buttons, but for now you have to have a physical menu, start call, end call, home, and back buttons

Feb 5th 2009 10:16AM The CEO of Sprint said that the Android OS wasn't good enough for his network, so you can forget about that (for now at least).
