School head bans sun cream for kids, saying 'hats are enough' {Parentdish - UK}
Jun 29th 2010 6:16AM If "hats are enough", then the children at that school are probably not getting enough outdoors time. I agree that hats are sufficient for short periods of time and that direct exposure to sunlight provides important Vitamin D, but for long periods outdoors in the sun, protection should be used.
Under-Scheduling Children - How Bad? {ParentDish}
Jul 2nd 2009 10:33AM I think unstructured play is one of the most valuable things that kids can do. It helps build their creativity.

Dec 20th 2008 4:18PM I was told by Transport Canada not to use a lying position because there was a good chance the baby would knock its head on the arm rests in that position. This is what I learned about take-off and landing specifically (includes illustration):

Galley Gossip: A question (and a poll) about breastfeeding on the airplane {Gadling}
Dec 2nd 2008 3:08PM Hi!
Thanks for this post. I've written a lot on the topic myself. I don't agree that moms should cover up (unless they want to). I think it sends a message that breastfeeding is shameful or to be hidden. People also assume that it is possible for all moms to cover up, but it is not. Some babies will knock that blanket off faster than you can get your bra unhooked.
Here are some things that might be helpful to moms that are wondering about breastfeeding on a plane:

With regards to nursing during take-off and landing, I was told by one airline that it would not be possible due to the brace position required, so I did some research. It turns out that they can require you to hold your baby upright facing you (not in cradle position). However, I am able to nurse in that position (baby straddling my hips), so I should be able to nurse during take-off and landing without a problem.
Fomula scandal prompts call for return to breastfeeding {ParentDish}
Oct 1st 2008 3:49PM I heard on the radio this morning that breastfeeding women in China are turning this into a revenue generator. One woman who is nursing her own child is also selling enough expressed breastmilk to another family for them to feed their 4 month old baby. And the rates for wet nurses in major cities has more than double and demand is way outstripping supply.
I wrote about the scandal when it broke too....I'm glad to be controlling the supply chain of what goes into my baby's mouth!
