Charlie Sheen: 'I'm Entertained as Hell' {PopEater}
Mar 1st 2011 11:30AM Charlie Sheen is delusional; perhaps even dangerously delusional. Right now, he is like a loose cannon. The show is great. I'm not at all sure how he can pull off the acting routine so well while so totally under the influence of his own ego-maniacle self. CBS is right to pull him; they could just slide someone else right into the same slot and keep on filming. He is not the only one who can play that part. Hollywood is full of guys waiting in the wings.
Nursing Home for Your Backyard in a Medical Care Cottage {Housingwatch}
May 22nd 2010 11:29PM YES! Yes, Yes, and YES! I am 73 and am becoming more and more debilitated by Polymyositis. My husband is 89 and a heart patient; very weakened and very limited. Our youngest daughter, 42, and her 12 year old son live with us and she is our care-giver. Without her we would be either dead or in some kind of cheapest possible care home. We could not in any way afford the $6,000 per month. But we could definitely afford $2,000 per month for the care pod and have an excellent place for it in our back yard. And I can see from the plans that it would be an even better place for my husband and me to be than in our own bedroom and bath here in our 55 year-old home that was not designed for all the functions it now has to carry. The two of them would be better off and the two of us would be better off. Fortunately for us, we all have nothing but love for each other; she is a kind and patient caregiver and we in turn try not to make undue demands on her. We are so much more fortunate than most seniors in our condition and we are well aware of that every day. But still, the pod idea and set up is the best thing I have ever heard of. The only ones who will oppose it, I am sure, are the nursing homes who would not want the competition cutting into their shareholder's profits. I hope it goes over very well. I will keep my eyes out for what is happening in that pod world. God bless the minister who thought of it. God always knows what He is doing.
Woods' Spiral Throws Legacy Into Chaos {Fanhouse - Jay Mariotti}
May 12th 2010 3:58PM About ten years ago, a golf tournament played in Norco, CA, made the
media in a very major way: scattered around the golf course were
brothel tents provided for the 'entertainment' of the players. This
was a really big media scandal for quite some time in the Southern
California area. The event promoters came back with the response
that it was done 'everywhere.' "Why are they picking on us?" Is
this where Tiger got his start? Makes one ask, "Tiger, and how many
others?" Is this why golf is so popular with so many men who
actually cheat on their golf scores and keep paying the high prices
to play, as well as not bringing their wives along with them? Just
something to think about. Who are these tournament promoters?
Kids Re-Enact MTV's 'The Hills' {ParentDish}
Apr 30th 2010 4:07PM Molly Ringwald's great-grandmother worked for us in our Dry Cleaning shop in Sacramento in the '70's. A beautiful, wonderful, loving lady. Her grandson, Molly's father, was blind and played wonderful piano; jazz, blues, all of it. She was very proud of him and doted on his little daughter, Molly - totally a precocious child. Molly's father was friends with another musician friend of ours, Jimmy Rivers, and they would get together and jam and Molly would be right in there with them. So it was with great pleasure that we followed her into her movie career and are pleased that she is once again being seen as the talent she truly is. I know her great-grandmother is still extremely impressed. Thank you for the article.
Bake Sales: Let Them Eat Junk! {ParentDish}
Mar 3rd 2010 11:05AM Cindy, your writing was/is so great! I lived it all. I so appreciated your putting it into words, that I printed out! For myself, to remember. My own children were raised in this same manner. Alas, the world is so different for my grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Too many things have been taken away from childhood. But too many predators are out there, now. They are no longer kept under lock and key; there are no mental hospitals to help those who cannot control themselves. There is no safety net out there anymore. But this "no home baked goods" rule absolutely takes the cake! Pun intended. And the business of a bag of candy made in Mexico and purchased by latino parents to contribute to the celebration just makes us all crazy. I can't guess how many times, at 9:30 P.M. one of my four would suddenly remember they had to take 3 dozen cupcakes to school the next morning! Thank goodness for cake mixes and late night runs to the grocery store!
Bake Sales: Let Them Eat Junk! {ParentDish}
Mar 3rd 2010 9:44AM Home baked goods and candies have not been allowed in our tiny little Fallbrook, California, town for a number of years. We never held bake sales to raise money but it was always fun at the fall and spring school fesitvals to have the cake walk and bake sales, and to take birthday cake or cupcakes in for special occasions. It has never been pointed out to us exacly why it became disallowed; we've suspected they are afraid someone might unintentionally or even purposely make someone ill. At any rate, it has been a great disappointment to both parents and kids to have this tradition and the fun it brought taken away from us. We, too, are stuck with bringing in only pre-purchased foods. A very expensive way to go and only the supermarkets profit from it. But you know what we find most ironic? Bags and bags of candy made in Mexico, some of which have been known to cause illness in children are given out. Go figure!
Suspend Tiger? PGA Tour Lacks Cojones {Fanhouse Golf Blog}
Feb 25th 2010 9:59AM Perhaps if you looked into the scandal surrounding a golf course/tournament played in Norco, California, about a decade back you'll find that tents were set up around the course, staffed with hookers for the servicing of the golfers. Is that perhaps a more common practice than has been realized? Is that what the golfers really don't want to get out to the public? Is that where the Tiger got his start?
Top 10 Love Songs {AOL Radio Blog}
Feb 8th 2010 7:48AM Whomever compiled this list obviously is not old enough to have even heard of THE real love songs. Robert Goulet's "If ever I would leave you", WWI's "Song in the Wind of the Lilies", "Indian Love Call", "Side By Side" out of the Great Depression, "Unforgettable" - Nat King Cole, "Stranger on the Shore", "Ebb Tide", "Harbor Lights"; my goodness, people, do some real research to earn your paychecks!
5th Grader With $10,000 Hands Out Grandparents' Cash on the Bus {Holidash News}
Dec 24th 2009 6:55AM It was WWII, I was 5 years old. Kindergarten. A tin foil and rubber drive for the war effort was being held at school. Everyone was bringing in rubber bands, rubber balls, tin foil from cigarette packs; I rolled a brand new tire all the way to school as my contribution. I was proud that it was so big! Fortunately for my parents, the school saw that this would be above and beyond what any parent would part with and contacted my mother at home, who was able to retrieve the tire. It was all transacted without my knowledge until I got home from school that day, so I was spared any humiliation in the face of the other kids. lol But, yeah, kids do the darndest things. Adults have to remember they are just kids and don't really comprehend the world as adults see it. So give the kid a break. All this publicity is enough punishment.
The Doggie Diaries: Should We Get a Puppy or an Adult Dog? {Pawnation OLD}
Dec 21st 2009 10:24AM Puppies are like people babies. Absolutely adorable. But they require round the clock maintenance for the first 18 months. And like people babies, they do grow, and grow fast. So that baby puppy cuteness isn't around for very long, really, but the damages done by the rambunctious rascal does hang around waiting for repairs and/or replacements of things that can be costly. Get a 2-year-old. Adore it and appreciate it and let that show and you will have the companion you want without all the trauma and drama of puppydom.
