LISTEN: Herman Cain's Gospel Album Drops {BV Black Spin}

Jul 14th 2011 2:32PM After listening to Cain's "singing", normally I'd advise him not to quit his day job but with his idiotic ideas he also needs to quit running for President.

Because Tracy Morgan Isn't Funny {BV Newswire}

Jun 13th 2011 8:35PM When some people use the word "sensitive", in most cases the word "respectful" should have been used. I am sick of people who try to justify ignorance and idiocy as comedy and entertainment. Some people use to find the hanging of black people entertaining.
Buffoonish acting comedians like Tracy Morgan and sometimes Chris Rock do not get a "pass" because they are "equal opportunity offenders" and offer weak apologies for extremely offensive public comments. Ignorance and stupidity should not be rewarded or accepted in any form. I'm tired of seeing ignorant black clownish entertainers being
elevated to celebrity status. There is no humor in ignorance but there is and always has been danger.

Beyonce and the New Black Feminist Movement {BV on Beauty}

Jun 12th 2011 3:37AM I wish that Beyonce would use her talent to promote more positive imagery about black women and girls as more than sex objects. We have power in our minds, our hearts, our votes, our actions and we don't have to take off our clothes to use it. There's power in being a mother, a sister, an aunt, a grandmother. There's power in being a painter, a scientist, a secretary, an employee or business owner. There's power in learning and teaching, in giving and receiving, in being smart , in being kind. As women, we need to represent power through our actions rather than just focusing on our bodies.

Patricia Heaton Has Lost Potential Roles Because of Her Politics {PopEater}

May 23rd 2011 1:01PM I could be labelled as a progressive democrat and I think that Heaton was great in "Everybody Loves Raymond" and is great in "The Middle". Republican or not, that Heaton doesn't get every role for which she auditions is part of the Hollywood game. I just saw the clip of the Versailles show and to me it was slow, boring, and not funny. Keep your day job Patricia and tell your husband to get his own.

Willow Smith Releases Preview Clip of Third Single, 'Rock Star' {BV Newswire}

May 18th 2011 12:10PM It's hypocritical the Will and Jada value education so highly that they fund schools yet they don't seem to value it enough to make education a priority for their own kids. During interviews, their kids seem to be full of ego but not very intelligent or well mannered. The fault belongs to the misplaced vales of their parents. Because a kid is in front of a mic or has a leading role in a film doesn't mean that he/she belongs there. Will and Jada have an opportunity to expose their kids to the best education in the world yet they don't. Even Willow admitted in an interview that misses school because of work. President and Mrs. Obama value education and it is highly evident in their actions not only for themselves but for their children. I hope that Will and Jada will recognize that comments like mine are not written from a place of jealousy but concern and hope.

Black Voices Exclusive: 'Madea's Big Happy Family' Clip {BV on Movies}

Apr 24th 2011 2:50PM While I applaud Tyler Perry's use of so many black actors and talent for his films, I must say that I think that his Madea movies de-masculinize black men and are a gross insult to the black community, especially black women. I just saw his "Big Family" movie and it was a huge disappointment to me though not a surprise since I'd seen some of his others. If a white person had made a film like this, there would be long picket lines and strong negative criticism regarding his outrageously buffoonish caricatures of black people. Even in the much derided old "Amos and Andy shows", the positive images of black folks were abundant and they played against the roles of the foolish exploits of Kingfish, his mother-in-law, his attorney (I forget his name), and a very few others. The gullible "Andy" was contrasted with the sensible "Amos" -the cab driver. In one episode, on one of Kingfish's few jobs, his lazy nature while working in an office was contrasted with a highly capable black boss in a large professional all black office. On "Amos and Andy" there were always more black folks on it who were upstanding and intelligent than ignorant. In most of Perry's films, most of the black characters are negative stereotypes. The scene in "Big Family" that takes place at a fast food restaurant focuses on two stereotypical highly unprofessional and rude black employees too involved in personal matters to take care of business. Perry makes continuous highly insulting jokes about plus size people (many of whom
attend his plays and movies) though in "Big Family" he offhandedly tried to insert some medical warnings. Along with the others, his often insulted plus size audience are helping to pay for his plus size mansion and mega-rich lifestyle. Perry is truly "biting the hands that are feeding
him." In desperation of seeing blacks in leading and non criminal rolls, we who are attending his "Madea" type shows are eating Perry's
highly unhealthy meals of denigration. I had enough. He has a story to tell with an important message but I would love for him to get a great writing
partner to help him to tell his stories about varied black life experiences while not utilizing the negative stereotypes often reflected by most other films, theatre, TV, and books. I am so happy
to see so many black folks acting in a film, but not acting like fools. I want Perry to produce films that will entertain and not subjugate and compromise the integrity of most black folks.

Joan Rivers Calls Michelle Obama 'Blackie O' {BV Black Spin}

Jan 28th 2011 2:23AM Joan Rivers' "career" is insulting people and for that, Dr. Watkins, you respect her and you feel sorry for her? I hope that you get a chance to meet her and I hope that you will call her "Jewie O" and ask her about her "Jewie O" daughter and "Jewie O" grandchildren. Being a hurtful person has been quite profitable to Rivers, and she and Laura Schlessinger have quite a lot in common. That Rivers regrets that telling jokes about black people is off limits, I wonder if she regrets not telling any jokes about atrocities done to Jews. I have never found ignorance including thinly veiled racism toward anyone entertaining. There are ignorant comedians in all races whose cesspool and racist mentality attracts some fans but I'm not one of them. If you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything.

Tucker Carlson: Michael Vick 'Should Have Been Executed' {Fanhouse NFL Blog}

Dec 29th 2010 3:52PM Sarah Palin has probably killed more animals than Vick. What does Carlson recommend for her?
