Galley Gossip: More flight attendant pet peeves - the summer edition {Gadling}
Jul 23rd 2009 10:56AM I know you have listed these as FA pet peeves but they resonate strongly with business travelers. I would add a few of my own:
a) Please don't bring the "kitchen sink" bag on board, it won't fit in the overhead and pushing and shoving still won't make it fit.
b) Please don't rearrange evrybody's luggage to find room for your PC bag - put it under the seat in front. Leg room an issue, don't bring so many items on board.
c) Don't drink to "be happy, it's my vacation" enough so you become obnoxious to your fellow passengers and the crew.
I could go on and on but whatever happened to simple common courtesy
Galley Gossip: Cell phones on the airplane {Gadling}
May 28th 2009 5:14PM OK SO you want the FA to give the guy the flight number knowing he is on the phone LONG after the announcemnet to turn off electronic devices has occurred. The airline doen't create this requirement - the government (FAA) does. Compliance is not optional, it is required. Keeping fellow passengers delayed because this person feels they have the right to speak on a cell phone at this juncture in the flight should NEVER be tolerated. My view is simple - if you can't follow the rules - GET OFF! And let me travel in peace.
Galley Gossip: That Day - 9/11 (plus a chance to win the book Reclaiming The Sky) {Gadling}
Sep 10th 2008 5:19PM While I wasn't flying that day (thank God) as I had been scheduled to do so but business changed things for me. I did fly the first day that flights were allowed and from La Guardia to DCA. I remember the Captain coming on the PA with the most astounding (at the time) message: use the Lavatories before we depart because all passengers will be required to remain in their seats for the duration of the flight. As a VERY frequent flyer, that seemed absurd. But that was the beginning. As, just before getting into takeoff position, the Captain again came on the PA to remind everybody that you could not leave your seat meaning you couldn't even go into the overhead to get a book, work PC whatever. Considering the somber moments of the flight, it was quite comical to see people clamoring to get what they needed before we rolled down the runway for takeoff - almost a Marx Brothers kind of free for all.
And therin lies the secret for what has become air travel. We are now cloistered by the rules TSA is creating to make us safe. It has nothing to do with the flight deck crew or the cabin crew - it is the rules of the TSA. I remember talking to a flight attendant after the flight above and she said that air travel as we KNEW it was dead and a new horizon was ahead. Boy how correct she was when we are now in an environment that makesflight attendants guard the forward lav when the flight crew is using same.
