Mar 4th 2013 12:41AM Let me tell you what my HOA tried to do to my wife and I. We wanted to connect the garage to the house. We got approval from the county building dept and inspector. We presented our plans to the HOA. Two members came to our home with the plans and said go ahead. We spent $15000 and ten months of our time building it. Two months after completion a new board was elected. All new members.
We got a call to come in to meet the board. When we got there the board president claimed they had no record of us getting permission to build. I said no way that was true and it is not my responsiblity to keep track of their paperwork.
She (the president) then claimed under state building codes no one is allowed to add on to a manufactured or mobile home. We said, "Fine, but how does that apply to us? We have a stick built home". The look in her eyes was priceless.
She replied, "How can that be? Stick builts are not allowed in this HOA". The secretary who was taking notes went to get our file with the real estate papers. After looking she confirmed we did indeed own a stick built house. The president then added, "Well I don't like your design".
Needless to say we walked out of that meeting with our heads held high!

Jul 16th 2011 11:13PM I know what it is like driving in dust storms. But back in 1987 I was driving in North Dakota and suddenly I was being hit by a MUD storm. I had to pull over right away and I saw dozens of other cars do the same. We waited for 30 minutes while mud balls were falling. It was the weirdest driving experience I have ever had to endure.
