The top eight things I miss most about the current state of air travel {Gadling}
Aug 29th 2008 5:15PM I came to flying late in life (relatively). I think I was 15 the first time I flew, and that was in 1990. It was almost a luxury experience. I remember the plane being mostly empty, being served a multi-course hot meal on a 2 hour flight, and friendly service. Growing up, my parents always talked about flying as a nice experience - it was a treat (hence never having flown until I was in high school).
I really miss being able to fly home over Christmas breaks and getting an entire row to myself on a cross-country flight. Stretching out and sleeping and casually chatting with flight attendants. This is a thing of the past. Now, if I can even SEE an empty seat anywhere, I'm surprised.
Now it might as well be the Greyhound. A fast greyhound, but a bus, nevertheless.
I try to fly first class when I can afford it, but domestic first class now isn't even as nice as economy was 20 years ago.
