Joe Paterno: The Ageless Wonder {Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog}

Aug 6th 2010 8:45AM I don't see why everyone in the media think this will be Joe's last year. I can imagine JoePa getting very excited about the new divisions, playing Nebraska, and the chance at a real Big Ten Championship game. Plus, this year Penn State will be good but not great. Next year Penn State could be great. I see no motivation for JoePa to step aside after this season. Unless he's forced to. And that just won't happen after the turnaround he accomplished in 2005. In any case, I plan to savor Joe Paterno for as long as he continues to coach, and I hope that's for a while longer yet.

Dirty Clothes {MyDaily}

Jun 21st 2010 4:58PM If anyone truly wants to do something about no cell phone use and driving then take the no phone zone pledge at Oprah Winfrey's website. And if anyone still needs to be convinced how dangerous cell phone use while driving is, take a look at the full video posted there.

I don't talk on the cell phone while driving but I live in a college town where everyone texts and drives. It's very scary. Showed this video to my students this spring and they are now convinced that they should stop.

'You Don't Drink?' -- Why Refusing Alcohol Is Such a Big Social Taboo {Lemondrop}

Apr 16th 2010 6:42PM Maybe I just have nice friends, but I never drink when I'm at a party or restaurant, and I've never been questioned. It's not that I don't drink. I just have a rule that I don't drink and drive.

Occasionally if someone offers me a drink I just say that I don't drink and drive and that ends the discussion.

And you know what? If they're uncomfortable with that, it's their problem, not mine.

30 Percent of Americans Don't Use the Internet {Asylum}

Feb 19th 2010 10:10PM What a stupid comment to make. I don't find it insulting that people don't use the internet. I find it sad that the author would "blame the victim" and say that's insulting. People who are unemployed or are on limited income can't afford to pay for broadband access. The Internet is not a high priority, not when you have to pay the rent and feed your kids. BTW, my mom, in her 80's, went out and bought a macintosh and got broadband access so she could stay in touch with friends and family. There's a lot of old folks who are connected.

Looking For Plus-Size Clothing? {AOL Hot Searches}

Apr 6th 2009 7:20PM I'm tall and plus-sized. Suggest you check out Land's End for a wide range of sizes in pants that they will hem to any length up to 35" inseam for free. Eddie Bauer has clothes in tall XXL that are generously proportioned. Both are primarily online or catalogue retailers. You can't find Eddie Bauer Tall XXL in their retail stores.

Salary Questions Irk Jim Calhoun {Fanhouse NCAA Basketball Blog}

Feb 26th 2009 7:04PM I teach at Penn State. One of the highest graduation rates among NCAA schools. The athletes I teach are for the most part more disciplined than the other college students I teach. They have to be, and the athletic program makes sure they are. The academics are NOT compromised. I report 3 times a semester on the progress of athletes and if they aren't going to class, they are disciplined. The athletic program gets no money from the state. Most athletes don't go on to earn big bucks. Please don't say things like "they don't graduate" without checking your facts.

Upgrading your wedding ring? "I do" or "I don't" {Licensed to Shop}

Dec 13th 2008 1:40PM My husband and I picked out my diamond ring together. It's of modest size but a square quadrillion cut that was unique at the time and I still get compliments about. I loved it then and I love it now. I would never consider upgrading it to something bigger because to me it is symbolic of our commitment to each other and not just another piece of jewelry. That's my personal feeling about it. For our 20th anniversary we bought (together again) a ruby and emerald custom ring from a favorite jeweler for my right hand. It's a gorgeous ring and one of a kind unique but one of the considerations I had was would it overshadow the diamond on my left hand. It doesn't. The two look nice together. I can't imagine ever upgrading my diamond. But one thing my mom did when my father died was get her diamond reset as a pendant. I might consider doing something like that if something happened to my husband. My mom's pendant is now a family heirloom and it's gorgeous.

Underwire bra dispute causes woman to miss her flight {Gadling}

Aug 27th 2008 2:07PM Happened to me once in Detroit airport right after 9/11. Humiliating and unnerving. So now I have a special bra with no underwire that I always wear when I fly. Clothing manufacturers take notice: use plastic for underwire rather than metal!
