10 passengers we love to hate: Day 6 - Crybabies and restless kids {Gadling}
Jun 8th 2009 1:56PM Honestly, I don't mind the crying babies. It's unpleasant, yes, but they can't help it. I recommend giving little ones medication that helps them sleep, especially through take-off, but really, my response to the babies is usually, "Poor things!" What I can't stand are the children who are old enough to know better (3+), whose parents let them scream, holler, kick seats, run up and down the aisles, crawl around on the floor, and generally be obnoxious. It always baffles me the way some people let their children act in public.
Jon and Kate Will "Weather the Storm" - But at What Cost? {ParentDish}
May 11th 2009 3:54PM I think if you look at the family on Little People Big World, though, you see that it is possible to do a reality series without turning into a joke like Jon & Kate. As with any added stressor, putting your family under such a harsh spot light can either make your family stronger or pull it apart. I think LPBW, the family already knew what it was like to go through tough stuff and knew their strength. Jon & Kate? I think they saw dollar signs and didn't think about it much further. It was a response to the stressor of so many children and...clearly, I don't think they were able to handle any of it well on their own.
United airlines "fat passenger" policy prompts plenty of backlash {Gadling}
Apr 17th 2009 1:02PM My argument has always been: if people with disabilities who are required to take up multiple seats a result of their disability have to pay for all the seats they occupy, people who are obese should have to, too. It's not fair to penalize one population and let the other one go for fear of hurting their feelings.
Beyond that, I paid for my ENTIRE seat. If you can't physically stay in yours, you don't get to have half of mine for free.
Galley Gossip: The flight attendant was a mess! {Gadling}
Apr 16th 2009 12:58PM This is why I chopped off all my hair when I was a flight attendant. I was tired of averaging five hours of sleep a night because I had to wake up an hour early to get my clothes ready and do my hair and make-up! So I cut it all off to a length (i.e. boy length) where it only took me about five minutes to get it ready in the morning. Trimmed my prep time to about 20 minutes. Hooray for 5 hours and 40 minutes of sleep!
Galley Gossip: Lost in first class {Gadling}
Mar 12th 2009 12:35PM I want to say, I really appreciate parents who take the time and energy to control their children on airplanes. I flew from Portland to San Jose over the holidays and getting onto the plane late in the evening, I cringed when I realized a couple with a three-year-old was sitting behind me. However, when they sat down, the parents both made it clear that the little girl wasn't to touch or kick my seat, that the little girl must talk in an indoor voice, and that the little girl must stay seated. Then they did a wonderful job of keeping her preoccupied throughout the flight so that she stayed on her best behavior. I was so happy, I wanted to turn around and thank them for being so courteous.
Galley Gossip: A question about why flight attendants are fat, old, grumpy, lazy and ugly {Gadling}
Feb 9th 2009 11:11AM It's worth noting that many of the foreign airlines with younger, more "glamorous" flight attendants also adhere to hiring and firing policies that in the United States are considered to be discriminatory and are now illegal.
'Tiny' - New McCain Ad {Politics Daily}
Aug 28th 2008 2:30AM What does Obama REALLY think about Iran?
“The Iranian regime supports violent extremists and challenges us across the region. It pursues a nuclear capability that could spark a dangerous arms race and raise the prospect of a transfer of nuclear know-how to terrorists. Its president denies the Holocaust and threatens to wipe Israel off the map. The danger from Iran is grave, it is real, and my goal will be to eliminate this threat.” - June 4, 2008
When several news organizations, including FOX News, report that this attack DID take Obama's words out of context, I don't know how Greg McNeilly can say that this was accurate "by all accounts." Maybe McNeilly can point me in the direction of a non-conservative blogger who will agree with him on his assertion that this is not a misleading attack that distorts Obama's position on Iran. I, on the other hand, choose to believe Obama's words themselves -- not one word selected out of a sentence that the McCain camp has decided describes Obama's entire policy on Iran.
Northwest flight attendants to wear Delta uniforms {Gadling}
Aug 24th 2008 10:50PM As a former NWA flight attendant, I want to point out that there are a lot of wonderful people who work for NWA. I had the good fortune to meet and work with many of them, and I certainly hope that any of my passengers would not have had the same impression of me that you seem to have of everyone at NWA. I knew some of the rotten employees, it's true, and believe me, it was as unpleasant for me as it was for any passenger who had the misfortune of dealing with them.
I think wishing for people to be furloughed, though, or to say you hope an entire airline disappears is terrible. There are a lot of truly good people at NWA who do not deserve your unkindness.
