How To Fly If You're A 'Customer Of Size' {Gadling}

Nov 14th 2012 3:29PM Actually, there is no federal regulation that requires any airline to seat you and your dog where you both "fit comfortably". The only requirement is that your service dog must be able to fit right in front of you at your feet. That's a requirement the passenger has to abide by, not the airline. If an airline has an extra legroom section, they are under no obligation to seat you and your service dog in that section unless you're willing to pay the extra fee to do so.

Nov 14th 2012 3:23PM That's a great idea- a win-win for everyone.

How To Fly If You're A 'Customer Of Size' {Gadling}

Nov 14th 2012 3:21PM While it's true that United's policy is that the armrest has to be able to be in the down position, they don't make you test your armrest unless there's a problem with a person spilling over to another passenger. Furthermore, they also never charge a "walk-up fee" if you need to purchase an extra seat due to size at the gate. If you read their policy, it says they will charge you for the extra seat at the same price you paid for your original seat. As for the armrest policy applying even if it's your family next to you, no airline wants to be the source of a problem with passengers of size. If your family is okay with you spilling into their space, neither United or any other airline will make you buy an extra seat. The author of this article must have just made up this information without checking out the facts.

Kathy Griffin's Newest Palin to Pounce On? Willow, 16 {PopEater}

Jan 5th 2011 12:37PM Why would any decent human being do that to another person? It's especially cruel to do that to a 16-year old girl who has done nothing to "deserve" any of this venom. Teenagers are so emotionally vulnerable and Willow Palin isn't a public figure who has opened herself up to this type of abuse. Unless Kathy Griffin is making a deliberate attempt to get Willow Palin to kill herself, there's no other explanation for what she says she's going to do.

Runaway Russian Teenager Hides in Landing Gear of Plane {AOL Travel News}

Nov 3rd 2010 2:07PM Thank you! I agree completely. I am no English expert, but how can a person be engaged in an occupation in this country which relies primarily on communicating in the English language, yet consistantly makes these mistakes? I feel it's an uphill battle teaching this to my kids. They know what's correct, but if they use the word "sneaked" outside our home, everyone tries to "correct" them. It's the same thing with the word "clique." Are we the only family in America that does not mispronounce it as "click?" By the way, I'm very glad the young man survived. I work for an airline and know that should have been a tragic situation for him. I hope someone welcomes him into their home and gives him the love he must be missing.

Runaway Russian Teenager Hides in Landing Gear of Plane {AOL Travel News}

Nov 3rd 2010 10:58AM Dear Libby Zay and your Editor: Contrary to popular usage, the past tense of the word "sneak" is not "snuck." It is "sneaked." For those who feel any word is correct which is commonly used, the only reason the word "snuck" is used by the public instead of the correct word is because the media continue to use this word incorrectly,thereby causing the public to think it is the correct use of the word.

Consumer Travel Alliance report finds major U.S. airlines not disclosing most fees on websites {Gadling}

Sep 26th 2010 1:55PM High Speed Trains are not the solution. I'm going to Japan next week, and it's outrageous how much the trains cost. In fact, just last week, one airline there said they are going to start frequent service between two major Japanese cities by next year because they can do it cheaper and faster than the cost of the trains.

Sep 26th 2010 1:47PM No I'm not on the ad company payroll, but I fly a lot. The article does specifically mention baggage fees as being hidden, in addition to other fees. So, I just went back on the United Airlines website and instantly saw a catagory for "Travel Options." When I clicked it on, lo and behold, there was a complete and well catagorized menu of all the additional options available to a traveler and the additional cost. Of course, for the extra legroom item, only some examples were given, which makes sense because it's based on how far the segment of travel is, so they would need to know your beginning and ending cities to give you the exact amount. I'm sure they give you that option to find out the exact amount when you input your travel cities and dates. They DO want to make money. I'm going to try this same thing on the websites of some other domestic carriers. I'll bet I will find the same thing- very well-marked and easily accessible pages listing the cost of additional services. Why do people so easily assume these research places are being truthful? It is plain to me that they have an agenda that is very anti-airline. I find it hard to believe that they only hire employees with the lowest IQ to do this research. After going on only one website that was extremely easy to navigate and glean information, I can't justify any other conclusion than that this research company is either lying to you and me or they have hired some of the least intelligent among us, either case of which completely nullifies their conclusion.

Sep 26th 2010 10:17AM There's something very wrong with the research for this article. I went on the United Airlines website and very easily found explicit baggage fee information in seconds. I challenge anyone with even half a brain to do the same. I'm sure there won't be any problem. Airlines don't won't passengers to get to the airport and ream out their employees because they didn't know the fees. They are "hiding" in plain sight on the web pages.

9-year-old Forgotten at Chicago Airport {AOL Travel News}

Jul 28th 2010 10:58AM @Alexis- There can't be any truth to your story. No matter which airline it is, when someone pays the unaccompanied minor fee, there is paperwork that is filled out by the person dropping the child off at the airport. It has the information as to who can pick up the child at the other end, and that person has to present ID. The only reason the grandmother would have been denied picking up the child would be because, either she wasn't named on the paperwork as the person authorized by the parent to do so, or she didn't bring any identification with her so airport personnel could verify who she was. Don't blame the airline for the parent's or grandmother's mistake. As for the other comments, while it's a terrible thing that this incident with the 9-year old occurred, the story makes it sound like he was left alone all that time, which is not the case. There is always at least one, and many times multiple, attendants in the special services room, along with other passengers. Obviously, there was a tremendous breakdown in communication, and hopefully, it won't happen again.
