Sep 7th 2009 8:33AM This was most likely a case of an elephant in musk. When male elephants have those dark streaks running down their face you'd better get way far away. This secretion stings/burns and is that little extra spark for males to charge. It's not that the elephant is bad...it's just reacting to the normal hormone secretions that they go through from time to time...kind of like PMS.

Aug 27th 2009 7:07AM I agree, it may not be the way that I would have gone (were it my daughter) but this is besides the point. Her parents have agreed that this child can sail for over a year by herself and do somehting extra-ordinary. Why is the government stepping in? This is none of their beezwax. What if the government decides that you shouldn't allow you child to rid motorcross? Or race cars? Heck...what if they decide that no one under the age of 18 should be out past 9pm?
Government shouldn't mess with how we raise our children unless we are abusing them. This is certainly not abuse...or neglect. Besides, I'm sure that there will be a boat following her every step.

Vegetarians rarely get: arthritis, colon problems like cancer, stomach problems like cancer, or many other things all related to eating meat. It's just healthier.
I really don't approve of the way that we treat the animals that we eat...but I also don't approve of using them for sport-horses and greyhounds.
Why do you think that it's okay to mistreat animals and butcher them without regard to their feelings? Could you...would you... slam a chicken up against the wall to get it out of your way? Would you toss a piglet into a barrell so that you could take it away from it's mother quickly enough to keep up your quota?(no matter that it broke it's neck on the side of the barrel) Is it okay to scald the skin off of an animal while it is hanging upside down bleeding out from the neck -not dead yet? Suffering. Feeling extreme pain.
You see the meat in the store and it isn't screaming. You don't see it's final moments or it's horrible life. You are shielded from the conditions that it went through.
